Cleaning a Mattress

Tonight my daughter managed to get my fitted sheet off my mattress and promptly threw up all over it. I brought my steam cleaner up and cleaned it the best I could using the car attachment - but I'm worried about it drying good and making sure the smell is out. Anyone have any other tips to clean a mattress??

I had a question about this myself and remember a site saying to never use that quantity of water to clean a mattress and that vapor-something or other was the right way to clean a mattress. Expensive tool though but there are services for such a thing.

But, to finish answering your question , I recall them saying use a fan to dry it faster, guess you can use a heater too (at a distance). Good luck. :flowers:

:lmao: I agree in THAT situation.

But, sometimes that's easier said than done. Bought my car brand new in November 2004 and the following February driving home from school my youngest son 6y/o at the time :barf: up in my car at the point when we were turning on to Leonardtown Rd from St Charles Pkwy headed to The Park. He had eaten too much candy for Valentine's day and it did not smell good at all. That was one helluva car ride in winter. Couldn't get home fast enough.

THe only thing I remember is hearing him say, I think I gotta... I turned around and a massive purple fountain spewed all across the backseat. Talk about somebody scrubbing the heck out of something... Still got that car, and that seat is still his til this day. :yay:

Yeah - I love my kids just as much even when they puke all over the place... Although now they are understanding the idea of getting sick in the toilet.

We've always had leather - wipes right off  I hate it but our sofa and loveseat are leather as well -- It gets cleaned regularly - I could not imagine if it was cloth. (I really want microfiber)

Thanks! I will toss it if I have to, I just wanted to see if I could salvage it as it's not a very old mattress (only a year old).

I still love her to death - she's just suddenly come down with a very nasty bug tonight. Daycare woes - they share with their friends and I'm afraid it's our turn now.

You could try some carpet cleaner - the foam type where you let it sit for 15 minutes and then vacuum or blot it up. Don't soak it with the stuff, just let the foam sit on top and absorb the stain.

Though we barely use the room my L-room set is leather. And, you're right it wipes off well. I dust it occasionally. :lmao:

Use a vinyl mattress protector which is advisable to save your warranty should anything go wrong with the mechanics of the mattress. Most companies won't take a soiled mattress back due to health safety reasons. You can always by a memory foam to go over the protector and under your fitted sheet if the vinyl bothers you.

I swear by SpotShot for carpet, so you can probably use it on a mattress. Dry it and then Lysol the heck out of it!!

I know what you mean about vehicles with cloth seats and smells! My oldest daughter drove to my house to say "Mom I'm in labor." (this was 2 years ago) so I jump in her vehicle to drive her to the hospital and her water broke. It's winter time and there was amniotic fluid everywhere! Then the vehicle sat there in the lot overnight before somebody finally took it home. Yuck was it ripe! Childbirth is wonderful - the surroundings not so much!.

I know you can make a paste with oxyclean (much less fluid involved) and probably use a scrub brush to work the remnants of the mess :lmao: out. To remove oxyclean/vomit/stain, use slightly damp cloth, wipe, rinse, repeat. Air dry, hair dryer dry. Lysol the crap out of it. Air dry, hair dryer dry. Febreeze. Put matress protector on it, then voila!

Or - just buy a new one! :roflmao:
