Cleaning Down Comforter ?

BadGirl

I am so very blessed
I want to wash my down comforter, and according to some research, there is conflicting direction on how to do it. Some say to use regular detergent and others say to use special down comforter detergent, both using cold water, and the "fluff cycle on the dryer.

Have any of you washed yours with regular detergent and had any problems? Or have you used the detergent specific to down comforters? Where do you find this around here? Wal-Mart? Target? I have some Dreft detergent - I was thinking about using that since I have it on hand.

Thanks!

I've always put my son's in the washer/dryer. No special detergent.

But..be sure it isn't too heavy (when wet) for your washer.

I have put my cheap-o ($) down comforter in the washer and dryer with no problem. But since this one is super nice and extra fluffy ($$$), I don't want to mess it up.

I'll take it up to the laundromat and use the huge machines with the regular detergent.

Thanks, Catt! :huggy:

I have an expensive fluffy one and I just put it in the washer. I use regular detergent and wash in cold water. I am always alarmed when I take it out of the washer (it looks so pitiful!). But then I put it in the dryer with some tennis balls and it comes out perfectly!

Good Luck!

We have two down comforters. The smaller one (Queen) fits into the washer. We usually take the larger one to the laundromat, though I always feels dirty and gross. I have taken my smaller one to the cleaners for about $60 though. :ohwell:
