Cleaning Furniture

Ever since my house has been infested with these cat-like creatures, they've left a distinctive odor throughout the house, especially in the cat box area where they leave their indescribably putrid droppings. And in the furniture.

Also, ever since my house has been infested with small humanoid creatures, which look vaguely like me, they too have left much evidence of their habits such as footprints on the sofa and stray bits of food and juice.

And in all fairness, I myself have unceremoniously forced air into various mattresses and cushions as well as added a coffee stain or two....

Since we're moving into a new place, where the quadrupeds will be mostly segregated from the bipeds, and the children are old enough to have stopped trampling the furniture and sneaking go-gurt into the living room (although, honestly, I will probably still engage in my behavior... but hey, I pay for everything, so I'm allowed), I would like to start off fresh and clean.

Personally, I'd like to burn everything that smells like cat and child and methane - but most of our furniture is new(ish) and it was pretty expensive, so torching thousands of dollars worth of stuff that still has a lot of life left in it doesn't seem like a good idea.

So does Woolite and stuff like that actually CLEAN the furniture, or does it just cover up smells. Will it actually get out food droppings, cat pheromones and California potato chips? Or do I have to strip the fabric off everything and wash it and put it back together?

I've got a cat, dog and two little ones (one is currently potty training) and can relate. We us Nature's Miracle to clean most spills/stains caused by the animals (both two-legged and 4-legged varieties) and purchased leather furniture for the living room since the fabric covered sofa in our playroom (former living room furniture) has seen better days.

You can find the stuff st Petsmart, it really works great.

Thanks.

I made the mistake of getting a leather couch back when my oldest was still crawling.

I won't be buying anything other than fabric until they have all moved out of the house, and live at least 3 states away.

I usually rent a steam cleaner, I do my carpets and furniture @2x's a year. Febreeze in between for smells, Capture from Sears for the carpet/furniture "mishaps".
