I've recently payed off my vehicle.

Is visiting the MVA to file for a "clear title" required by law? I don't plan on selling the vehicle any time soon. Is anything to be gained?

Thanks!

every vehicle I've ever paid off, the bank sent me the clear title in the mail

May want to check with the borrower to see if they have your title and when to expect it. Once, I did have to drive to the bank and retrieve the title.

After the lien is satisfied, the Security Interest document must be mailed to the owner and kept with the title. Both documents are required to sell or trade the vehicle.

:yeahthat: Just paid off the truck and that's what they sent me in the mail. Called the bank, and they said that's what Maryland does now. Similar to a lien release.

As he said. You should have received the actual title (regardless of lien) soon after you initially purchased vehicle (probably blue). That title will indicate your name up top and the lender at bottom. You receive the second part (usually red), once you pay the vehicle off. It will be signed by the bank. Just staple the two together and youll have no need to do anything. When you sell the vehicle youll sign over the blue title and youll simply give both title and lien release to new owner. New owner must have both to register. If the bank didnt send you the red title, the MVA will accept as alternate an original letter on bank letterhead stating the vehicle is paid off. Must indicate vin, make and year and have signature. I unfortuantely do this BS for a living.
