What does the name Kevin Smith mean to you? If you know him as the comedy genius who mixes subtle drama, raunchy humor, and pop culture references, see this film. If you know him as a director of offensive comedies, this film won't change your opinion of him. And if the name means nothing to you, this isn't the film to introduce you to Smith's filmography.
Here, he re-visits the characters introduced in his first film, a B&W indie shot for under 30k twelve years ago. It was a wild box office and critical success and this just-as-excellent comedy should be as well. It's an hour-and-a-half blast of colorful humor, relatable, smart character beats, and, of course, plenty of pop culture craziness (best of all, a war of words between hardcore Lord of the Rings and Star Wars nerds). If you're a fan of Kevin Smith's unique style (he's definitely an aquired taste, the way Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick are), Clerks II is a must-see.
