BREAKING NEWS: Cop dies in crash while escorting Clinton motorcade

DALLAS - A Dallas police motorcycle officer died after a crash while escorting Hillary Rodham Clinton's motorcade to a campaign rally.

"We are just heartsick at this loss of life in the line of duty," Clinton said at the rally.

Dallas police spokesman Sgt. Gil Cerda said he had no details on the crash, which happened shortly after 9 a.m.

KXAS television in Dallas-Fort Worth reports the officer died shortly after arriving at Methodist Medical Center.

NBC News correspondent Ron Allen said the officers motorcycle was severely damaged in the crash that happened at about 9 a.m.

Allen said the motorcycles were speeding ahead of the motorcade and that the crash happened before Clinton's vehicle slowly passed by.

Aerial video showed emergency medical technicians laboring to treat the officer on the Houston Street viaduct between the downtown and Oak Cliff sections of Dallas.

Escort on Motorcycles is a dangerous sport.

First they block an intersection, then they speed by the procession to get to the next intersection they want to block. Its a dangerous business. I know of one St. mary's officer retired from doing this at a funeral . Red & blue lights and a siren are not armor

My sympathies to the officers family.

Cant knock Hillary for this . No way should she have stopped. It would have just made things more difficult. Plus her Secret Service escort wouldnt have allowed it.

Agree. Just a shame for the officer's family. On the radio the report said he was thrown 30 feet. Motorcycling is dangerous.

She could have delayed the speech, or cancelled it and gone to offer personal condolences to the family members of the officer, she could have done a lot of things. But Hillary can alway be counted on to do what is best for Hillary only. I don't for a minute believe she is heartsick about this, any more than she was heartsick about Vince Foster. I don't believe what she says, I believe what she does. And what she did was to go on about her day, make her speech with a platitude included, with the every all encompasing goal of becoming POTUS ever at the forefront of her mind.
