Clinton says, "Look at me! Look at me!"

Former President Bill Clinton double-dissed President Bush last night, saying his successor in the White House has bungled handling the U.S. economy and the crisis over Iraq.
I wish this guy would shut up or get a little class. You know, Big Bush never criticized Clinton at all - he stayed out of it and said, "I'm not going to criticize a sitting President." Clinton and Carter have some weird syndrome where they have to be the center of attention, whether it divides the country or not. Some statesmen.

Asked what would have happened if he was still President or if Al Gore had taken the White House, Clinton said that the economy would have slowed, but added: "Would it have been as bad as it is now? I don't think so."
That's cute that he can come up with that BS when the economy was slowing while he was in office and all signs were pointing to a major economic upheaval. And we wouldn't be talking about Al Qaeda or Iraq. When we got attacked during Slick Willie's tenure, he did nothing. Nothing. 9-11 is a direct result of Clinton's inaction.

Right after winning UN Security Council support in November for weapons inspections, the White House "sent 150,000 troops to the gulf, which convinced everybody we weren't serious about UN inspections. That's how we got into this political mess."
No, Bill...retard. We got into this mess because Saddam built up weapons on your watch. If you'd been doing your job instead of boinking interns, none of this would be happening right now.

I HATE that guy! Just when I think I can forget and move on, he comes up with some other attention-getting nonsense that reminds me of just what a slimy, divisive scumbag he really is.

Iam not a democrate nor republican - but Bush has only given one press conference since last November - -what is he doing with North Korea - I believe he has a personal agenda - come heck or high water - he scares me - gas prices highest ever - employment awful - only 5 people from Enron have formal charges been made against - Cheney is already making agreements with big oil comppanies to repair Ira- he made $75,000,000.00 - oh - excuse me Haliburton - from the Desert Storm - Bush will nevermeasure up to Carter nor Clinton in his diplomatic abilities - it is either his way or no way - sounds like Cheney doesn't it

Gas prices really aren't at their highest ever if you factor in inflation. In reality we are paying less now than we paid in 1960 for a gallon of gas. Compare the price of cars...1960 $3500, 2003 $25,000 now the price of gas 1960 $0.50, 2003 $1.60.

I'm glad the new gas offers all the latest options such as airbags, anti-lock breaks, GPS navigation systems.

I don't have any of that stuff - I have a stripped down Jeep Wrangler. I paid $12k for it new 11 years ago. Recently I went browsing and found a stripped down 2003 Jeep Wrangler with the exact same stuff as my Jeep. The no-haggle price on it was $21k.

I'm not paying twice as much for 2003 gas vs. 1992 gas. Nice try, though.

Pretend I'm stupid and explain to me what that chart means. Does that chart say that, adjusted for inflation, gas prices have actually gone down?

Look at that climb start in mid-1998. Must have anticipated that Bush would become President.

Smalltown, what comsumable hasn't gone up in price?

Food, water (remember it use to be free), wood etc etc

Its only technology items that have come down drastically like the GPS, airbags etc you elude to.

Yes, people we're saying that adjusted for inflation, gas prices haven't moved very much and I was stating why this is the case (nothing changes about it!) If anything, new technology to refine it and ship lower prices. Gas is gas. Where as with the cars new research is being done all the time to add extra things, make them cleaner, make them faster, make them safer, etc.
Look under the hood of a car that is 15 years old and look under the hood of the same type of car now. A lot is different. Think back to gas 15 years ago, it probably looked about the same as gas does now.

But also gas prices are a reflection of the price of oil which is somehwhat out of the scope of the US economy (we don't set the oil prices) which go up and down with little relation to our inflation.

Smalltown you are so shortsighted because you have no idea how gasoline is made and what is involved in a modern chemical plant.

Refineries also have to meet tougher EPA regulations which costs more money, the gas of today is cleaner burning than ever, the gas taxes are higher than ever gasoline is made through a series of chemical reactions that were discovered in the early 1900's you really can't throw too much technology into it. Todays refinery workers are paid more than ever. Take a chemical engineer from 1960 and a chemical engineer from 2000 and they will both be able to make gasoline in the exact same way. But take an electronics engineer from 1960 and show them todays electronic circuits and they will be baffled. Its similar to picking tobacco, not a whole lot technology can do for it.
