Closet Renovation for Function/Storage

But wait, there's more...
DQ's room is storage challenged, which blows my mind considering she has two 6'-wide closets. The problem is that she currently has to just throw stuff in the closets because there aren't defined storage spaces (e.g., cubbies) for organizing things. My plan is to take one of the two closets and build shelving to define organized storage as well as give her a bench to sit and read that can double as a work surface for doing something (e.g., lego's) by simply moving the pillows off.

Attached is what I'm looking to do. I know I need to recalculate to allow spacing for the materials (e.g. 3/4" for each storage 'wall'). Again, keep in mind that she has two of these closets in her room; both along the same wall. So it's not like I'm taking away the only closet she has to do this. Thoughts? Anyone else do anything like this before?

The ultimate goal is to give her a way to organize all her crap without adding yet another piece of furniture in her bedroom. She already has a queen bed, dresser, chest of drawers, tv/ps2 stand, computer desk and kid-sized papasan chair. Yes, she has a pretty big bedroom.

Lowes has some of those wire closet organizers that I used to redo a closet that was about 4X5. Worked great and was able to customize to suit my needs. Amazing how much crap I could put in there and not look like a bag full of marbles.

I thought about going with the wire closet organizer systems/shelving, but every time I've seen it installed, its stability seemed questionable. :ohwell: I'm leaning toward going with 3/4" plywood so that I can paint it. The plus side is that my boys at Lowes will cut it for me to my specified measurements, which saves me a TON of work. :yay:

The stuff I used attached to the walls. No instability about it. I went from having clothing hanging on two sides to be able to hang on 7 locations and had room over the top and 5 or so cubes that were about a cubic foot or better to store odds and ends.

3/4" will definetly do the job and last a lifetime.
