Charles County Public Schools: Closed with a code red for staff. All Charles County Public Schools weekend activities through Sunday, Jan. 24, are canceled.

St. Mary's County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 22, 2016 with Code 4 for employees. Weekend activities and SAT cancelled.

Calvert County Public Schools: closed; code green for staff. Weekend activities and SAT cancelled.

Human Trafficking Awareness Event Rescheduled

Due to the impending storm, the Human Trafficking Awareness Event has been rescheduled for May 13, 2016, from 7 p.m.– 9 p.m. Thank you for helping us spread the word!

ORIGINAL SCHEDULE: Friday, January 22, from 7 – 9 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 23075 Town Creek Drive in Lexington Park, MD.

Due to inclement weather conditions and forecasts, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) has rescheduled several events for the coming week.

The SAT exam scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 23 at Westlake High School has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 20 at Westlake. Students registered to take the SAT this Saturday should receive email notification of the date change from Educational Testing Service (ETS).

High school athletic events scheduled Jan. 20 through Jan. 25 have been rescheduled. All changes are posted on the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) website, www.smacathletics.org. Select the conference tab from the menu area to access the event calendar. The site also features a subscribe option for community members, parents and students to enter an email address to sign up for text message notification when changes are made to the SMAC calendar.

The Charles County Public Schools Destination Imagination Instant Challenge event scheduled for this weekend has been rescheduled for 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6 at North Point High School.

Henry E. Lackey High School’s show, “Lend Me a Tenor,” scheduled for Jan. 22 and 23 is canceled. The show has not yet been rescheduled. Lackey’s JROTC drill competition scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23 at Fairmont Heights High School in Prince George’s County has been rescheduled to next Saturday, Jan. 30 at Fairmont Heights.

North Point High School’s coffee house event, Coffeehouse 2016: Deja Brew All Over Again, is rescheduled for 7 p.m., Feb. 4, 5 and 6, in the school cafeteria. The event will feature alumni students and student performances such as singing, dancing, poetry and other talents. Hot drinks and desserts, made by students in the North Point Culinary Arts program, will be available for purchase. Cost of attendance is $8 general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. The Robert D. Stethem Educational Center’s Career and Technology Education (CTE) open house originally scheduled for Jan. 21 has been changed to 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28. The open house is open to the Charles County community and attendees can participate in a program tour, meet staff, learn about the CTE programs available at Stethem and learn about the enrollment process. CTE programs available at Stethem include automotive technician, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, horticultural services, interactive media and pharmacy technician. Stethem is at 7775 Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret. Call 301-932-1003 for additional information.

Matthew Henson Middle School’s science fair will be held next week, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the school.

A Charles County Public Schools professional development session, “Apps Night Out,” scheduled for Jan. 21 was postponed to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28 at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School.

J.C. Parks Elementary School’s Cooperative Games Night event planned for Friday, Jan. 22 was rescheduled to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28 at the school.

St. Mary's Recreation and Parks Closures

All St. Mary's County Recreation & Parks facilities & programs will close at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 22. All facilities will remain closed and all programs are cancelled through Sunday, January 24. The Gymnastics Center will not open Friday morning.

A decision regarding operations on Monday, January 25 will be made no sooner than Sunday night with notification not later than Monday morning.

All youth basketball games scheduled in St. Mary's County public schools Friday through Sunday have been cancelled.

Recreation and Parks facilities include the Leonard Hall, Margaret Brent, Carver, and Hollywood Recreation Centers, Chancellor's Run, Gymnastics Center and the Great Mills Swimming Pool.

The Wicomico Shores Golf Course, Riverview restaurant and all museums will remain closed during the same time period.

St. Mary's County Library January 22–24 Winter Weather Closures

Due to the impending winter storm, all branches of the St. Mary's County library will close at 12 noon on Friday, January 22. If the storm approaches earlier in the day, all branches may close earlier. All branches of the St. Mary's County Library will remain closed through Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24. It is anticipated that all branches will open for regular business hours on Monday, January 25.

St. Mary's Co. Government Operational Status for January 22 - 24

With predictions of blizzard-like conditions to impact St. Mary's County this weekend, St. Mary's County Government has made operational decisions for Friday – Sunday, January 22 – 24. National Weather Service forecasters say snowfall could begin as soon as early Friday afternoon.

The following schedule changes will be in effect:

Ø All St. Mary's County Administrative Offices will close at noon on Friday, Jan. 22

Ø St. Mary's Transit (STS) will operate its normal schedule (weather permitting) on Friday morning, but may suspend operations early Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday

Ø The six (6) convenience centers and St. Andrews landfill will close at noon on Friday and remain closed throughout the weekend

Ø All Recreation and Parks programs scheduled for Friday – Sunday are canceled. This includes the Appraiser Fair, scheduled to be held at the St. Clement's Island Museum

Ø All three senior Activity Centers will close at noon on Friday. No meals will be served or delivered

Ø All three St. Mary's Library locations will close at noon on Friday and remain closed throughout the weekend

Ø St. Mary's County Circuit Courthouse will close at noon on Friday

Note: closing times are subject to change as weather conditions vary.

During the course of the storm citizens can track the progress of road crew operations on the Service Area Map on the County website at www.stmarysmd.com/dpw/roadalertmap.asp.

St. Mary's County Government will provide additional updates when warranted.

Charles County Operating Status Updates
County government offices closed Friday


The National Weather Service has forecast a snowstorm with blizzard conditions will significantly impact Charles County starting early afternoon tomorrow and continuing throughout the weekend. Based on this inclement weather forecast, Charles County Government and county agencies have adjusted operating schedules for Thursday, Jan. 21 through Sunday, Jan. 24.

Charles County Government administrative offices will be closed all day Friday, Jan. 22. Essential personnel and employees required to maintain operations during inclement weather are to report to work as scheduled.

Curbside recycling collection service will run early on Friday, Jan. 22. Place carts outside tonight, Thursday, Jan. 21 for pickup.

The following facilities and services will close early on Friday, Jan. 22 and remain closed through Sunday, Jan. 24:
• Charles County Landfill and Recycling Centers (closing at noon on Friday)
• White Plains Golf Course (closing at noon on Friday)
• VanGO (closing at 1 p.m. on Friday)

The following facilities and services will be closed Friday, Jan. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 24:
• Tri-County Animal Shelter
• Crain Memorial Welcome Center
• Port Tobacco Village
• Nanjemoy Community Center
• All senior centers
• Meals on Wheels program
• Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center
• Port Tobacco Recreation Center (open for normal evening hours on Thursday, Jan. 21)
• All school-based community centers
• Lackey High School, Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, and North Point High School indoor pools.

Calvert County, Maryland Government Offices Close Friday, Jan. 22

Calvert County government offices remain closed today in anticipation of heavy snowfall, high winds and dangerous wind chills that will occur and last more than 24 hours

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan issued a State of Emergency that took effect at 7 a.m. today.

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners has also issued a State of Emergency that took effect at 7 a.m.

The Calvert County Department of Public Safety is urging all citizens to stay off the roads starting Friday morning until the blizzard passes.

The following Calvert County services have been affected by the closure:

• Calvert County Circuit Court adjusts closure time; offices will close at noon today.

• All Calvert County government offices will be closed Jan. 22.

• County bus service will not be available Jan. 22 or Jan. 23.

• All county Parks and Recreation activities, rentals and programs have been canceled for Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24.

• The county's community centers, parks and the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center will be closed Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23.

• County convenience centers and the Appeal Landfill will be closed Jan. 22 through Sunday, Jan. 24.

• Calvert County libraries will be closed throughout the weekend.

• The Calvert Marine Museum will be closed Jan. 22, and Saturday Jan. 23 and Sunday Jan. 24

All College of Southern Maryland campuses will close at 11:30 am Friday, Jan. 22 and remain closed Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24 due to weather conditions.

11:30 am Friday: NAS Pax River will begin a Staggered Departure today at Noon. Critical employees will remain at work as scheduled. All non-critical personnel should depart by 3 p.m. The base will go into Restricted Access at 3 p.m. and remain in Restricted Access through Sunday.

Fashion Centre at Pentagon City and St. Charles Towne Center will close today at 3 p.m.
