Thousands in Hollywood protest remarks from CNN's Jack Cafferty

"Thousands of Chinese Americans protested outside CNN's offices in Hollywood this morning, calling for the dismissal of commentator Jack Cafferty, whose recent remarks about Chinese goods and the Beijing government inflamed a community already angry about international condemnations directed at the host country of the upcoming Olympics.

The protesters lined Sunset Boulevard from Cahuenga Boulevard to Wilcox Avenue chanting "Fire Cafferty" and singing patriotic Chinese songs.

"We understand free speech," said Lake Wang, 39, of Thousand Oaks. "But what if Cafferty said this about other racial groups? I think he would be fired. I think he's jealous of China."

2. My cousin used to be a member of a Chinese Amaerican Friendship organization. They followed orders direct from Beijing. The Chinese government expects our media to follow similiar orders or lose their investment in China. The paramilitary goons they sent to guard the torch are from the same branch currently shooting monks in Tibet. As evidence of an armed conspiracy they offered up a cache of guns etc. alledgedly found in monasteries that would be grossly eclipsed by what would be found in an average city block in the U.S. You wonder why we need a second amendment. Bravo Cafferty.

I wonder...

Apparently they do not.

Welcome to America, Mr. Wang. Enjoy your stay.

...what would happen if speech companies, the bosses of a Cafferty, an Imus and folks like that actually went to the microphones and just put protesters on the spot; "What words and groups of words do you want banned?"

I mean, damn, they've got these pulpits, TV, radio and print and protesters are calling for de facto bans on free speech. Put 'em on the spot, have the argument.

"Chinese" is a race now? His remarks were directed at China, not people who are Chinese.

These Olympics are going to be a disaster. Their products suck. Their government is oppressive. If the chinese don't want to hear that, they need to fix their problems instead of protesting people who voice their opinion.

That's...

Their products suck.

...not fair nor is it true. If you'll notice, of the near endless number of things we buy, wear and use, every single day, that are of, if not good or great, certainly of acceptable quality and price, that were made in China, we keep talking about lead paint in a batch of toys; needle in a haystack.

Consider that.

Look at how and why the problems happened. They don't care if the products contain lead, or if a wildly popular childrens toy turns into a date rape drug. As long as they are getting $$$ (emphasis on $$$, not just money) they don't care.

Yes, most of their products are adequate, but I don't believe that when you see "Made in China" you don't automatically assume it is a substandard product. I sure do, and I believe that most people feel the same way based on experience.

...unfair. You don't have to like it, but, Chinese goods are good. And, guess what, it's American companies that are ordering and importing and merchandising and selling these products. You don't suppose their motives are absent $$$?

"What words and groups of words do you want banned?"

They could do that all day and would never get an answer. Besides, we already know what words they want banned - any that don't coincide with their own opinion.

Anyway, no matter what happens, there will be SOMEONE who wants to pule and cry about it. Why we care anymore is beyond me.
