Cold spell coming...How is the flue?

Just a helpful reminder that if you have not fired up the wood stove,...come Friday you might need to.
SO...do a quick clean out while its comfortable and reduce the risk of a chimney fire.
Check your caulking/sealant around the exit insulated pipes too!

Cheap way to rattle out the creosote...dangle a 25 foot chain down inside from the roof exit vent,...then clean out your access port. No problems in over 25 years!
Stay safe out there!

I suppose I should get down to the Safeway and get my shot.

Ya spelt flu wrong buddy..
You know...it didn't look right but I didn't want all sorts of cold & flu remedies hijacking the thread....so, blame it on "Old English" spelling!

Just sneakin' around....
That's not how you clean a creosote laden flue pipe. You light a charcoal BBQ grill and place a section of the pipe on top. Wait for the creosote to get hot and drippy, and then 30 foot flames out the top!!!!! Wait until the flames die and do the next piece. After it's done flaming, one or two strokes with a pipe brush easily removes the puffy carbon right down to bare metal. Quick spray paint with high temp flat black and reassemble.

And yes, I used to do this to clean the pipe.

These days I use a pellet stove with a 3" corrugated pipe up the flue. A quick shake and all the non-flammable dust falls out, vacuum it up and done.
