Charles Co. College Board schedules online AP exams, provides free webinar for parents

The College Board recently scheduled dates for online Advanced Placement (AP) exams for students. Each exam includes a primary test date in May and a make-up date for students. The schedule is posted at https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students/taking-ap-exams/ap-exam-schedule. All primary exam dates fall between May 11-22 with make-up dates on June 1-5.

The schedule includes specific information about each subject exam, such as the number of questions students can expect, the time frame in which students must complete the exam and content areas the exam will include. The College Board changed its AP testing program this year due to the coronavirus and nationwide school closures.

Exams will test students on skills and concepts learned in the first 75 percent of the course. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) AP teachers are providing students with lessons in Microsoft Teams to help prepare them for the exam. The College Board also is offering online resources, including review courses facilitated by AP teachers, to students for free. Review course content is available through livestream or on demand. A schedule is posted on the College Board website at https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students/ap-course-schedule.

Parents can sign up to review a webinar about online AP exams. The webinar includes information for parents to help their child learn and test from home. The webinar is posted here on the College Board website. Click to launch the free webinar.

Students who no longer want to take an AP exam can opt out up until the scheduled day of the exam. The College Board will provide CCPS with a detailed list in June of students who completed and did not complete AP exams. The list will be provided after make-up tests are counted. CCPS will then look to provide refunds to parents for students who opted out of taking an exam.

Students who receive a score of 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam are eligible for the reimbursement of testing fees. The reimbursement request must be submitted to CCPS by Sept. 30. The form is posted on the CCPS website at https://www.ccboe.com/images/students/APCTEReimbursementForm.pdf. An official copy of the score report must be submitted with the reimbursement request.
