College Costs: Is there a way

to do this legally? We have a house in Maryland and one in Virginia. We spend about 80% of our time in Maryland. Two kids, one at UMCP in Maryland, another one getting ready to accept at UVA. Can my husband start the process now to make the Virginia home his primary residence and get in-state tuition next year for the one going to UVA? I'm assuming our tax filing would have to be married filing separately, and we would have to register a vehicle there. We already pay property taxes there. What else would we have to do and how long would we have to wait before they would consider her an in-state resident for tuition costs?

She: But Dad I really want to go.

Me: The very same degree is offered in State for $9,000 less per year.

She: But Dad I really want to go.

Me: You are $9K short per year.

She: I don't like you anymore.

Me: You are $29K short.

True story.
