Color Laser Printers:

The office is thinking about replacing the current color laser printer (Minolta) with another Minolta. I have not had oodles of success with Minolta. This printer just doesn't seem to want to stay printing.

What does your office use for color laser? How much down time do you have with it?

Recommendations?

What?!
We have a HP Color LaserJet 4550. Haven't had any major problems with it. Maybe 2 or 3 in the past 3-4 years. And it's only been outta service like a day at a time.

Our HP's are only down when our network geeks are too busy to change the toner. They're never too busy to smoke, but it can take days to get toner out of the closet.

I have always had great success with HPs, that is pretty much all we used at my former place of employment. We had an 8000 a 9000 and a handful of 4550's like Jamie mentioned above, I cannot recall ever having downtime with any of them, save the normal maintenance.

This minolta we have onsite now, breaks down constantly. We also had one minolta at the former job and it broke down quite a bit as well.

I am starting to think Minolta is just #### when it comes to printers....

I have a Phaser 850 that is 6 years old and still cranking out pages like a champ. If I were to ever replace it, I'd definitely get another Phaser.

Speedy says the ink sticks are expensive but, when you compare it page for page with the toner cartridges, it's about the same price.

Maybe so.

However, I used to do the ordering for those cartridges, and paying over $100.00 for one color was insane (and you need, what, 3 or 4 different colors PLUS the black cartridge?).

Mainman: Is the printer for small jobs of heavy volume color printing?

They don't make those anymore. Those were good models too!!!

Are you guys not allowed to put in your own toner?

We're not supposed to, but if it's there we do. It's usually kept locked up so we have to wake up the network weenies to get it.

Damn talk about control freaks. I suppport printers and the last thing I would want to do is replace toner cartridges for every printer all day long. I think we only had one case where some guy had to muscle in the toner becase "it didn't fit." :lmao:

Yours might take different ink than mine does. Mine has solid color sticks that look like chunky crayons. For $675 I get 5 sticks each of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus 6 sticks of black. This lasts me all year and I do a TON of printing.
