Compact/Mini Smartphone

I'm considering finally getting a SmartPhone but I really don't want a gigantic device to carry around. That's one of the reasons I've held off getting one up until now. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a smartphone that's a little more compact? I don't have a strong OS preference. The iPhone 5s, though not the latest iPhone, seems to be the size I'd like but the reviews always mention poor battery life. I'm not sure if that's a show-stopper for me or not. Does anyone have a SmartPhone about the same size as the 5s that's got a better battery life and good overall as well -- something you've used and would recommend?

There's also the Droid Mini and the HTC M8 REmix, and the Moto X. The Min and Moto should bring pretty good battery life.

coming at the end of July from One Plus

Model 2 [supposed to be a 'mini' model]

my 1+ One has been great so far [I've only had it a week, Foxhound recommended it]

my phone was $ 300 bucks no contract fully unlocked, the company does not care what Android you run
it comes with CyanogenMod out of the box

I had ZERO issues, OEM Unlock, Fast Boot, Install Custom Recovery image, Root'd

this maybe advanced for someone just getting into a smart phone, but the potential is there if you like to tinker

I recommend the Viper to new drivers :) What could go wrong? :)
