Does anyone have any personal experience with the spyware detection programs? Is it after the fact it is installed or before it actually get installed?

I think when you first install it, it looks for what's already on your hard drive, and then once it's installed it blocks spy bot crap.

I just started using AdAware. It seems to be an 'after the fact' product, that goes out and searches your hard drive/memory/registry for these spyware footprints. You download updates for it much like updating your virus protection.

That's how it seems to work to me.

Spyware and adware are different. Adware is mostly to block pop-up advertisements.
Spyware is to block sites that look for personal information about you and anyone who uses your computer.
Some ads put spyware on your 'puter- but mostly the ads are just annoying as crap.

I wish they would make a program like "The Terminator" and zap any spyware program on contact. Sometime after the spyware has installed, it is a P.I.T.A. to fix.
