The ground beef was produced between Oct. 8 and Oct. 11 at Cargill Meat Solutions' plant in Wyalusing, Pa. and distributed to retailers across the country. They include Giant, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Wegmans and Weis."

Ooooh noooooo! George Bush is trying to kill us with tainted beef!! :jameo: :jameo:

I wouldn't blame it Bush, but it is strange that there is such a media storm over Chinese lead paint but little is being done to ensure that our own food manufacturers are prepare their products properly. Guess we need a few kids dying from E. Coli to get the ball rolling.

The question of the day is: "How many?"

How many contaminated toys were produced, shipped, and ended up in the hands of children?

Then compare that to how many packages of contaminated beef have been produced, sold, and eaten.

Lastly, I think the fact that they realized the contamination shows the system is working. And if you're about to say, "But it's a million pounds of beef!" you need to ask how many pounds they produce in a day; the amount of which I do not know, but I'll bet it's a lot.

But hey, if you want to stampede the streets going :jameo: with your friends have at it. God knows you won't be alone...

Lastly, I think the fact that they realized the contamination shows the system is working.

It would appear that the recall mechanism is working.

"The (pepperoni) problem was uncovered by state and federal authorities investigating 21 occurrences of E. coli-related illnesses in 10 states." (-www.ens-newswire.com-) In this case the contaminated product came from a subcontractor whereas the million pounds of ground beef came from a single manufacturer.

The recall of ground beef and other products seem to be on the rise. Waiting for someone to become sick from eating a contaminated product is not in my view an effective method to prevent further occurrences. The manufacturers need to identify and implement procedures that prevent the introduction of bacteria into the product.
