Computer Beeps Part II

I started a thread a while back and asked "Why does a computer boot up and then freeze up and then steady beep?"

A couple of people had some good advice and a lose card was suspect.

Upon re-sitting the DIMM/SIMM card. The machine actually started to act right.

Then upon further re-boots, it started doing this:

It boots up from a cold boot and the fans run, the hard drive runs, the CD ROM kicks in and the windows boot bar comes up and as soon as desktop appears....it re-boots itself all over again and same thing happens everything makes it to desktop and then.....boots up again. It keeps repeating this cycle.

What gives?

Either that or a nasty virus. Had one that would repeatedly reboot my computer. Had to wipe it clean and start from scratch to get rid of it. I wouldn't even boot to safe mode. Good Luck!

Or windows has gotten corrupted from the false starts. If you have an option during the boot for Windows Recovery, select that, and at the c: prompt type chkdsk /f.

could be a corrupt registry entry.

to get the standard desktop you need:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

then down where Shell is: "Explorer" or maybe "UserInit"

without the quotes if this is wrong usually you get dumped back to the login screen ....

can you get a good boot in safe mode .... when the system 1st starts up ... press the F8 key several times until you get the boot choices ... then chose SafeMode ...

I cleaned it out real good with compressed air and resitted the memory stick.

So, far it seems to be working. But.......

Ya know, I was wondering how in the heck I am supposed to clean out this machine? It has vents at the top, but I don't really see any at the bottom, so if I blow canned air into the top vents that's just going to blow the dust down into the machine. This sucker is going to be fun cleaning! :faint:

I can help you to open up the case. I learned how to do it because of my old computer died, so I opened it up and learned alot about it.

Oh! I wouldn't want to mess with that....

Probably so, but who knows (it could be cat hair, dog hair, dusts, dust mites, food crumbs, etc.)

This is my computer, you look at this thing and tell me again HOW do I open it up and clean it. Not as easy to do unless you know what kind of machine your talking about. This thing might be an inch and a half thick. Most of the vents are on top. I am afraid to touch it with a screwdriver let alone open it and clean it! :lmao:
