Can someone please tell me what this means? Sometimes when I'm on my computer, There is a fan that comes on ( or at least it sounds like a fan) from the back of the computer. It will come on for a few minutes, then it will cut off. Am I doing something wrong? I asked a few friends about it and they said its never happened to them.

The fan doesn't always run constantly. Depending on your computer's BIOS version, it may use the fan only when the temperature inside your computer reaches a certain mark.

if this hasn't happened before, and it just started, you might want to get some canned air, take the box off, and blow out all the dust.. It maybe so dirty that it's effecting the cooling ability, and the fan coming on might be trying to make up for it.

If it's a laptop, check your processes make sure you have no rogue processes running sucking up your processor. Norton is really good at this, and you'll see 98% usage for your processor. It will get your CPU overheated, and an additional fan will come on but it will usually stay on.

As was suggested above you may need to go buy a can of compressed air, remove the side panel and blow it all out. If you have never done this before, you might wanna take the pc outside to do it. You'd be surprised how much dust can collect inside a pc. Make sure you blast that fan out good too.

As Bob said above you might have too much stuff or processor intensive stuff running that is causing the processor to overheat. Might be trouble down the road.

:yeahthat: I had a computer fan act up because there was too much dust inside. I ended up having to get it replaced, but it's fixable at least.

Take it apart and oil the fan.
No too sure about the oil OR the WD40, that kind of gives the dust bunnies something to hang on to.. you think you have a dust problem now, introduce something for it to cling to YECCCCH!!

I believe that was a joke! I don't think anyone would spray WD-40 into their computer... :ohwell:
