We've come across this virus a few times. The computer has to be booted in safe mode with an external drive attached to recover all the files/folders/email/etc. Once the data is recovered, the computer should be wiped and reloaded with a clean OS. Before the data is restored, every file and folder needs to have the 'hidden' file attribute removed and the data scanned for any remaining virus.

Sorry I can't recommend someone, haven't used a computer shop around here in many years.

NOT that it helps you now, BUT for the future; back up your files, look for a sale on external hard drives, you can often get one real cheap online. Pay for a "Real" Anti-Virus Software program, do NOT settle for one of the free ones.

If you are a Comcast Internet customer, as a benefit of being their customer, they provide you free Anti-Virus, the "REAL" Symantec Norton Security Suite, same as the "REAL" one you pay for in the stores.

I agree with GWguy.. You need to boot into safe mode. Run rkill. This should find 1 item running. Then run malware bytes. This should find it and remove it. I have seen several versions of this malware. The latest not only hides your documents but also moves all the program shortcuts from your start menu to a hidden file. It does not play nice.

I don't know anyplace around here that will not charge you an arm and a leg to fix it though.

Run antivirus program in Safe Mode (tap F8 on start up until it gives you that option) You may have to run it a few times to be sure you have gotten it all. Also run a anti-malware program (adaware, etc.) in safe mode if you can. It will take alot of time to do a full scan, but it's worth it. You might want to delete all your cookies, temp. internet files, etc. before doing the scans. No need to scan those items if you can just delete them first. Be sure your antivirus program is up to date, as well as any other scanning program. If you let your computer go to sleep when you are done with it, you probably haven't let it update or scan on a regular schedule, hence your problems. Having these programs is great, but leaving your computer on for them to update/run is of utmost importance.
