I have a HP Laptop, relitively old, Win 7, 500 GB Hd, 8G Ram. I have a lot of pictures on it in various folders. I got some virus, and paid Staples to remove same, but now Most of all the pictures are "encrypted" and it asks me to go to this website and pay for the "UNencription" to get them back. Needless to say I do not want to pay this Virus idiot who sent this virus to get my pictures back. There must be some one/someplace that can get these pictures back and then down load just them to a CD or thumbdrive?? (I would supply those??). I am willing to pay "something" to someone reputable to do this? Any ideas/takers? These pictures are most of familly outings, My grandkids, my dogs, motorcycle hobbies etc. I really, really want my grandkids pictures back. Please contact me : bs.otters@verizon.net; or phone 301-373-5731. I have the laptop back, and can/will deliver it almost anywhere in the region.

Thank you for your time and efforts...

Stew

Just attended a class about hacking. Companies are paying ransom at 15K at a shot to get their data back. It's called Ransomware! Usually you can't decrypt them until someone develops the decryption key. Could take a while.

There may be another way. If you have ever executed a back-up using the windows 7 backup program that came with your operating system, You should have a shadow copy of all of your documents and pictures in another partition on your hard drive that (hopefully and should have) escaped the Cryptolocker encryption. It is a painstakingly long process to retrieve them from this shadow as well, but it is better than paying the ransom or completely losing your data. Few people are aware that this shadow exists. The shadow ONLY exists if you ran a backup using the windows 7 backup program that came with your operating system and the data is only as good as the last backup. Specific instructions on how to retrieve you documents and pictures from your hard drive shadow can be found by using the search engine of your choice. Search for "how to retrieve files from shadow". I hope this information is helpful. If you can understand the directions, it would be a LOT less expensive for you to restore the pictures yourself than to pay someone to do it for you. As I said, this could take quite some time, (Hours or maybe even days) depending on the number of files (pictures and documents) that need to be recovered.
