It looks like a decent configuration, although i don't see a cpu speed on there. Nothing really great or really bad about it. I would get another 256 Meg of RAM at a minimum though.

The graphics card is new enough to support direct x 9, but it is a fairly low end card. Not a good choice for new 3d games. The sound card is also a low end version. They are both about one step above integrated video and sound.

You also don't mention a monitor.

You could get a similar computer at 2.8 Gig with a 17 inch monitor from dell for around $1,000 (Dell Dimension 4600). The price should drop considerably for anything under 2.4Gig though.

Dell.com - Dimension2400, 2.6GHz, 128MB, 80GB, CD-RW, 17" CRT for $425 after rebate

This is one of the most decent lowest-quality computers on market you can buy today. Forget about playing 3D games on it, since it's only real use would be for surfing the web, doing email, taxes, word processing, and storing/printing digital camera photos.

Dell Dimension 2400 in Dell Small Business
Pentium4 processor at 2.66GHz with 533MHz bus
Windows XP Home
$100 mail-in rebate option checked
128MB 333MHz memory
productivity pack with Wordperfect and Money software
free upgrade to 80GB 7200rpm hard drive
single drive: 48x CD-RW drive
3.5" floppy drive
17" (16" visible) E773c monitor (this option may not be automatically marked, but it is listed as a free upgrade)
integrated Intel 3D Extreme Graphics
no speakers
no modem (adding a 56K data/fax modem would cost $20
limited warranty: 70% savings on 2 year basic plan

The computer in this configuration comes to $498.60. Free ground shipping. Because this is Dell Small Business, all customers must pay sales tax which would add another $25 or so to the purchase price. Send in the $100 rebate after you receive it and if you like the computer.

WC, be sure to check http://www.hot-deals.org/ frequently. That's where I got the deal I posted above. And they update daily several times per day.

I buy almost all my electronics exclusively by finding them on that website.

I agree, atleast another 256mb of memory & definitely find one with a better video card. I got a similar system at Walmart for 698$. It came with everything you stated, plus a monitor. I also have since upgraded to 1gb of Ram & a Nvidia Graphics card, 128mb 9200 spd.

Yeah, I like it. Buy from Dell, they're okay. Check out hpshopping.com as well, as HP/Compaqs are nice too. You should be able to shop based on specs pretty closely.
