I skimmed the article - will go back and read it later. But I'm wondering something: the beginning thoughts attributed to Colin Powell - it really doesn't seem plausible that Powell would speak that intimately with a reporter. He IS a professional after all and known for his discretion. So how does that reporter know what Powell is thinking?

Our esteemed Secretary of State has been working very hard to paint himself as a messenger of peace and restraint in a sea of warmongers. A lot of this has come from press speculation, but I don't doubt that Mr. Powell is doing his best to serve as an "Informed Source." If it were up to Powell we would still be waiting to get Iraq out of Kuwait.
