Tonight the Leonardtown HS Girls Varsity Soccer team captured the Maryland 4A State Championship by defeating Quince Orchard HS 1-0. They played the game up at UMBC, and despite the chilly windy weather, really dominated play! This is Leonardtown's first state championship since 1998, congrats go out to the graduating seniors who really made their last season one to remember, the rest of the players and to the coaching staff (special congrats to Head Coach Jennifer Henderson).

Way to go Lady Raiders!

I didn't know whether to post this here, or in sports...so I did it both places. I hope that is okay. The girls really deserve some major kudos for a fantastic season and playoff run. :yay:

Way to go Leonardtown, LHS doesn't have some of the most competitive teams in SMAC, and its great to get a state championship no matter which sport it is.
Ive been around soccer my whole life, my father came from England and played in league's around Washington DC up until he was in his mid 50's. Unfortunately being a old guy, when I went through high school soccer wasn't a competitive sport, we only played in gym class. It's great to see how it now has taken off. My sons played it all through school and now my grandkids are playing every spring and fall, and grandpa still hates to miss a game on Saturday.
You want to see a good soccer game, nothing against the guys but watch two good girls team go at it. I think the US Womens Soccer Team's with Mia Hamm and and the others really helped promote soccer for the girls.
I have a 5 and half year old granddaughter who is a joy to watch play, she's been playing with her 9 year old brother since she could walk, and when she is out there playing is a real firecracker one of the few at that age that knows what to do. I just hope this Old Guy sticks around to see her go through high school and college hopefully playing soccer.

Way to go LEONARDTOWN :yay: :yay:
