Considering the 2014 Cruze

Luvin Life !!!
Yup.....the 2012 I've got now is, let's see....two years old now.

Just because you can, does not mean that you should. I would have thought that at your age that you would be past the gotta have a new toy stage. Unless you own you 2012 with no lien, you will walk in upside down and end up buried in your next loan. Your payoff is just maybe now starting to actually chip away at the principle you owe. Just remember its only new to you the first time you drive it off the lot.

I should replace my car soon but I just can't get warmed up to a car payment. I drive old vehicles. My 2003 Mercury is pushing 200k and has started to eat into me for repairs. My truck is a 1995 Ford F250 x cab 4x4 diesel but only has 140k on it. That should last me a few more years. But hey if you like the Cruz buy it!

In that class, I would look real hard at the Fusion. I would take a look at the Dart/200 (price vs "luxury"), but I think the Fusion is the class leader. But really, is there something wrong with the 2012? Some feature the new ones have, or are there mechanical problems with it? Two years is really still the infancy of almost any modern vehicle. No reason not to expect a +150,000 lifespan. And the longer you hold it, the better it is financially.

Yeah.....I know. That's why I said 'considering.' I shoulda said 'just thinking about it.' The term 'considering' might imply that I've alrady found something and started the paperwork. Not the case.

The 'new toy stage' isn't so much an age thing as it is a guy thing; at least in my family; and just cuz there's something new out now, doesn't mean I'm goin' right out and getting one. None of us were ever able to do that.

Technically, I could pay off what I've got now, right now and be free & clear, trade it in and not be upside down. I just wouldn't have a whole lot left to put down on anything new, in addition to the Blue Book on my current car after paying off what I already have. So, I'll wait til the payoff amount goes down a tad more, then I'll pay it off.

Sometimes the thought process of trading in for something new every two years doesn't always work out, but for me right now it could.
But it prob'ly won't. /:-\

Could you possibly change your definition of "old" to "last year's model" or "a couple years old"? That's old.....right?

I would get the '14 Cruze Eco, but as soon as I did, I guarantee Murphy's Law would rear it's ugly head and I'd need the down payment money after it's already gone.

I thought about the Dar or Dart II; whatever it's called. Thing about Dodge/Chrysler products is, most parts are dealer only items. The '97 LHS I had.....every part I replaced; though they were few; were dealer only. I suspect that the Dart is the same.

Edit: You mentioned the Fusion.....if I pulled up in Dad's driveway in a Ford, he would disown me. :sarcasm:

I have a Fusion and can say without hesitation it's the best overall car I have ever owned
The BMW was great driving but overall the Fusion is the winner.

If you are still being influenced by your dad at your age you might seek help

I've never driven a Fusion; might think about it though.
And, I did seek help, but Mom didn't have a whole lot to say.

There are quite a few parts for any car that the aftermarket wont bother making. Never had an LHS. But I can say everything I have needed for my 175,000 mile Charger I have been able to get. Me, I don't get the blind brand loyalty thing. Or blind dislike of anything a brand makes. Every company is capable of producing both great and horrible machines.

Well, Dad's a Bowtie guy from a while back; when he use to work on cars for a living. He just has a distaste for certain things; unknown to me; that Ford does.....but, he can tear a Chevy down to the frame and put it back together with his eyes closed.
Since I started driving and paying the freight myself, I've had two Buicks, one Chrysler/Mitsubishi Laser RS (Loved that car.....til I wrecked it), a Chrysler LHS and a Cruze. I only wrecked the one car. The rest were because it was time for a new something;ie; began paying loads of money for parts/repairs, so get somthing newer.

The next car.....

Everyone has their own opinion of course, but some makes/models improve with the new model year.
I'm just curious to see what's improved since 2012.
"Then go for a test drive." Yeah, there's that.....well, I might just do that.
