Cop begs for help to ID girl stuffed in box

" (CNN) -- A self-described "cynical old cop" gently held a tiny shoe decorated with purple flowers as he begged for help in identifying a dead child Galveston police have dubbed "Baby Grace."

"Baby Grace" was wearing white and purple running shoes when her body was found, police say.

"She is more to us than just a case number, more to us than just an unidentified body. She is very much a human being," Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office told CNN Friday.

The child's body, stuffed in a large plastic storage box, washed ashore this week on an uninhabited island in the Intracoastal Waterway.

This is so heartbreaking. I can't stand it when people hurt children - and then to just toss her out like yesterday's garbage...I hope whoever did this is found quickly and punished to the max.

i always like to think that in a case like this, if the person who did it ISN'T found, that some gang with good family morals (like...mafia type of thing) just found the guy and did unimaginable things to him and he got the punishment he deserved..because lets face it...most of the time, even when they are caught, they still aren't getting what they deserve.

"Authorities in Texas released a composite sketch of an unidentified child whose dead body was stuffed into a locked plastic container and found by a fisherman Monday night.

"Baby Grace," as authorities have named the girl, suffered fractures to her skull that initially may have caused her death. Police are treating the case like a homicide while pathologists at the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office continue to analyze the body."

I don't know what happened to this little girl but it makes me want to cry and feel very helpless. I wish I knew what I could do to keep something like this from happening again to other children. It seems like more and more we live in a society of "throw away children" where they are being abused and discarded like they have little or no value and it sickens me.
