Yeah, I could search for previous threads on this but I am too lazy. More importantly, technology changes every day.

Any one care to give their opinions on what is required to do it? Can you recommend any specific Hardware and Software that’s good to use?

My boys turned 18 last Friday. I got to reminiscing (sp?) and realized I should probably do this before the tapes get too old!!! ??

I’ll probably want to edit them somewhere down the road, but right now just want to get them copied.

Also, get a DVD burner for your computer, since CDs won't hold very much footage.

I'd also recommend getting a second hard drive. We use a Digital 8 camera with a FireWire connection, and even a few minutes of raw footage takes up at least 1GB of disk space before being converted to DVD format.

Thanks Tonio! I was thinking DVD and used the wrong wording. What brand of DVD burner though? I run XP professional, gig of ram. And will the burner come with decent software? I also want the burner to be external. No bays, left but I do have usb connections available.
