Coughing at night

Besides a humidifier, is there anything that will soothe a cough at night? Girl is coughing a lot....it's dry, no mucous. She has no fever and during the day she's fine, but she's coughing often now. I gave her tussin about an 45 minutes ago.

Having Fun!
Set her up on two pillows so she isn't laying flat.

:yeahthat: If it continues you might want to get it checked out by a doctor. That was how I found out my kids had asthma (not meant to scare you, just what was causing a dry night only cough with my kids).

That was my suggestion...is she in a crib or bed? If she comes off of the pillows, you may want to stick something under the mattress to lift up her head.

My mom always used Vicks and I did that with mine and they still like it. Rub Vicks on her chest and put a wash cloth over it and a t-shirt or something under her pjs. Make sure you wash it off in the morning.

Ok. I did that. Hopefully it'll work. Thanks.

Thank you Rose! It has definitely slowed down a bunch!

I've read about that. It's not a regular thing, but if it becomes one we'll definitely check it out.

She's in a bed. I tucked her in pretty well so I don't think she'll come off the pillows. I put some Vick's on her also. :huggy:

In My Opinion
take her to the doctor.

If she was older, like 40 plus, there would be real reason to show concern.

but, never the less, have her checked out.

Throwing the deuces
Put some vicks on her feet & put some socks on her !

I heard about that and tried it a few weeks ago with my oldest. Didn't do a lick of good. :ohwell: Gave him some Mucinex for kids and that seemed to do the trick. I do know some people that have tried the Vicks on the feet and it worked great.

They also have vapor patches now that stick to your nightgown/shirt, if you don't want to mess w/ the goo from the Vick's jar. The Vick's on the feet covered by socks worked for me and the kid when we were sick. I also had the vapor patch on, easier to breathe smelling the menthol all nite.
Good luck, hope she's feeling better!

Thanks! She slept wonderfully last night after being elevated and having Vick's. I don't mind the goo, and I'm sure it's cheaper than the patches. :nomoney:
