Could Use Some Prayers For My Babies. . .

I'm officially on bed rest.

Well, I knew it was a possibility - I guess I just didn't see it as a real possibility for ME. Obviously, my appointment with my peri didn't go so well today. . .

First they had a cardiologist come in from Children's Hospital to look at the babies' hearts. He was very thorough - checking all the ins and outs of blood flow. Baby A was perfect. Baby B was in a difficult position so harder to see. . . the dr. thought he saw a small hole between the chambers. . . but he couldn't be sure so I have to go back in a month to have it re-checked. He said with the size of it - the odds were awesome that it would not be there come delivery time. Said I shouldn't waste any energy worrying about it as they didn't hear a murmur like what would be typical of a hole.

Next we move on to the scans of the twins. The US tech asked me if I had a cerclage - nope. Was I on bed rest? Nope. She said I was about to be. My cervix is funneling and only about 1 cm - where it should be 3 cms. I learned that the sciatica I thought I was having has actually been contractions - and I've been having them like crazy.

So now I'm on bed rest. I have prescriptions for a stronger med to control my diabetes, one for a sinus infection, one for swelling, and another for terbuline (sp?). I'll be taking pills until I can get a pump set up at home. I should have that tomorrow I think. In 2 weeks they will start steroid shots in case they do have to deliver me early.

The mere thought of bedrest is hard on me!! But I'm seriously praying right now that I can keep these babies cooking for a good while longer!!

I don't normally ask for prayers or positive thoughts but I could really use anything I could get right now. These babies are true miracles for me, so wanted, and so loved already, please I pray my body hangs on long enough for them to be safe.

Keep your head high and your thoughts pure. Its easy to say not to worry but doing is another story. My heart goes to you and your babies and I hope n pray all your dreams come true with your twins and they will be in your arms healthy happy safe and sound.

I was a little bit further along than you (24-25 weeks) when I was put on bed rest and I had to stay in the hospital until I delivered. I was in the hospital for 5 weeks at John Hopkins (2 hours 1-way for any visitors so I hardly had any) and 1 week at Southern Maryland Hospital. What sucks about being in the hospital is no Internet, in Baltimore there was only 4-5 channels on the TV and it was rather lonely being so far away from home for visitors. It sounds like you are also having the same troubles, diabetes, and having to get the steroids shots (which feels like a bee sting and itches after they poke you in your butt).

There were some women in my ward that were downright nasty, grouchy and mean about being on bed rest, so the nurses said they went in, did what they needed to do and beat feet out of the room. They would come in my room and watch TV, which I didn't mind UNTIL the 4-5th week, then I wanted to kill them all.

You are just going to have to make the best of it and follow the doctor's orders but as much as I :blahblah: and complained back then, I can honestly say that bed rest sounds pretty good to me right now and I'd take your place if I could. :lmao: I could read all those books I've gathered that I really have no time to read and watch movies. :yay:

Hang it there! You'll never get this kind of down time once the babies get here! :huggy:

When are you due? I'll keep you in my prayers. Hang in there, Momma.
:flowers:

Thank you. My official due date is February 14 - but because of it being twins the latest they would let me go would be 37 weeks, so the end of January. I am 21.4 weeks now - 24 weeks is considered viability week for twins, with a 50-50 survival rate, so that's what the seroid shots are for - to mature the lungs in case they have to be born that early.

HalfAngel - At 26 weeks I went into preterm labor with my twins and was on strict bedrest for 6 weeks when all of a sudden it stopped.

I was in and out of L&D 5-6 times per week getting shots of Terbutaline...

Hang in there... Keep us updated... Even with all I went through with my guys they were born healthy at 38.3 weeks and I am sure yours will be, too... :huggy:

30 weeks and 3 days. (as you are learning - even the days are important)
I actually had a tear in my uterus and was bleeding. You are having boys, right? You want them to bake as long as they can. I was told while up at John Hopkins that female premature babies do better than males and it is hard when you are at that iffy stage like you are right now but really, hang in there and try not to stress out and worry. :huggy: Have faith that things will be fine.

Who is your doctor? And I take it that if any medical attention was needed, they have you going to Southern Maryland?

Yes - 2 boys. That's interesting about the boy/girl thing - I've never heard that. My ob is Dr. Aron - he delivers at Civista. Not my fave place but I love Dr. Aron. . . My peri's office is in Rockville (affiliated with Shady Grove). I actually asked her today if I should reconsider where I deliver and she said no. She feels that I have every chance of making it to 2009 (my ultimate goal). I was before, and even now moreso am, skeptical of SOMD hospitals with no NICU. . .

My son was born in 1999 and as soon as I hit the 30th week, I requested a transfer back to Southern Maryland Hospital from John Hopkins. It is my understanding that I was the only patient they ever requested such a thing but I knew I was delivering early (my doctor was the head of the unit at So. Md. -Doctor Kane- and authorized the transfer) and the hospital was (at the time) a level #2 (I think they still are). Civista was only a level #1 at the time (not sure where they stand now). Worst case, they'll transport you out to a hospital with a higher level of care if need be but it sounds like your chances of getting further along are very good!

Edit: I had the care levels incorrect so I corrected them!

I would venture to say that if you have any complications prior to the 30 week mark, you are going up the road, so you want to be a well behaved patient at home on bed rest. :huggy:

Adding my thoughts and prayers for you and the little ones!! Try no to worry (not easy). As long as you follow all your doctor's orders, you should be fine. :huggy: You just need to have a nightly talk with those little guys and remind them that they really don't want to come out until February!! Not that guys ever listen...
