In Yemen, an editorial by Muhammad al-Assadi condemned the cartoons but also lamented the way many Muslims reacted. "Muslims had an opportunity to educate the world about the merits of the Prophet Muhammad and the peacefulness of the religion he had come with," Mr. Assadi wrote. He added, "Muslims know how to lose, better than how to use, opportunities."

Now, where's them lazy as Yankee journalists to back a brother up?

I'm a day ahead of the editorials...

When we were attacked on Sept. 11, we knew the main reason for the attack was that Islamists hated our way of life, our virtues, our freedoms. What we never imagined was that the free press -- an institution at the heart of those virtues and freedoms -- would be among the first to surrender.

Good read.

Where is our free press??????????????????????????????

Interesting article. But the press has a different issue to face here, and I'm disgusted by them.

They've had NO PROBLEM in the past exposing details in criminal cases, matters of public policy and military matters where the end result could well have resulted in *increasing* the level of danger that SOMEONE ELSE WAS FACING.

The cartoon thing is different; they realize that if they publish those cartoons - the Muslims might KILL *them*. Not some soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan. Not some sorry schmuck testifying in court. THEM. Someone might kill THEM over it.

And suddenly they've got a twinge of "conscience" over the appropriateness of it all.

It almost makes me wish some militant crazy *Christian* faction would arise and threaten to blow them all to kingdom come the next time they publish pictures of pornographic Virgin Marys covered in cow dung.

They have LOTS of courage when it costs them nothing.
