Couture vs Coleman targeted for UFC 109

Five-time UFC champion Randy Couture has verbally agreed to face former heavyweight champion Mark Coleman at UFC 109 in a light heavyweight bout.

Not sure why - but this just does not pump me up as a fight to watch. I got to believe it is just going to be Coleman tiring out in round one and spending the remainder of the bout pinned up against the cage in Randy's clinch. I don't see how it could end up any other way.

When I saw your post my first thought was 'great match up'.

Same age. Same size. Similar backgrounds. Similar styles. Both long time greats. :shrug:

I honestly hope you are right and I am dead wrong on this one! I want nothing more than to see two 40+ year old men (like the couture and nogueira (only 33 years old) fight a few months ago) go out there and really put on a show. But I just don't have a good feeling about this one. But if any good rumors came out of this – it is the main event between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort could possibly headline the card!

I do see how it could be a clutch and grab gasp fest. I mean, they are 44.

On the other hand, I guess I'm just thinking, given the match up, it may be a pretty good fight. 44 today is NOT 44 of 10 years ago.

Of course, they gotta test Coleman!!!

Yeah, Spike showed a recent fight with Randy against Brandon Vera last night. What a snooze fest. The highlight was Vera giving COuture a kick to the solar plexus that looked like it injured him. Randy just kept going to the clinch against the cage. I don't know how many times they got separated.
