I’m hearing about cases of kids getting the ‘rona in school. How can this be if EVERYONE is wearing a mask and MASKS WORK in stopping the spread? Is there data on the number of kids getting sick in school and if so, where can I find that data?

In the news is some ' new ' CDC study ... unmasked kids are spreading the coof in school

Masks in school help prevent Covid-19 outbreaks and spread, CDC studies find
St. Mary's - personally know a kid (high school) who had to get tested (negative) because of sitting next to a friend in the school cafeteria who tested positive. Anecdotal evidence that some nurses who are getting covid are blaming their kids for bringing it home from school. That's why I said "hearing" and wondering if this data is being tracked.

In last week's Board of Ed meeting, the superintendent said that the kids who are testing positive aren't getting it at school, but are getting it in the community. I didn't realize that the COVID tests had advanced to being able to determine the location of transmission. :sarcasm:

The school district post the numbers on their website. It appears the biggest outbreaks are at Dent, Brent, Leonardtown High, and Chopitcon.

Officials in Montgomery, Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties yesterday announced extended closures of three schools to isolate children exposed to likely cases of swine flu, urging students in those schools to avoid public places and warning of more potential shutdowns in the days ahead.
Nationwide, at least 434 schools in 18 states had shuttered yesterday to prevent the spread of the flu, leaving more than 245,000 students home, according to the U.S. Education Department. The closure total was up more than 40 percent from Thursday. Federal officials said they expect a further increase and encouraged teachers to prepare materials to send home with students.
Locally, new cases were identified at George Washington University in the District and in Charles County, bringing to 17 the tally of probable or confirmed cases of swine flu across Maryland, the District and Virginia. Maryland authorities reported 67 additional possible cases awaiting further testing.
The case of a Montgomery student, which prompted Rockville High School to close, marked what officials called a worrisome shift in the local progression of the illness.
