Supreme Court Says Crack Sentences Can Be Reduced

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal judges have broad leeway to impose shorter prison terms for crack cocaine and other crimes, the Supreme Court said Monday in a pair of cases that bolster arguments for reducing differences in sentences between crack and powder cocaine.

The court, by 7-2 votes in both cases, upheld more lenient sentences imposed by judges who rejected federal sentencing guidelines as too harsh.

The decision was announced ahead of a vote scheduled for Tuesday by the U.S. Sentencing Commission, which sets the guidelines, that could cut prison time for as many as 19,500 federal inmates convicted of crack crimes."

Well its about time, do you all realize how hard it has been to find somebody to work on the refrigerator lately?

Crack user should be sentenced to go cold turkey plus 6 months.

Why? They don't make the users pick up the pipe and smoke it. They aren't putting a gun to your head and saying "smoke this and effe up your life, or I'll end it in a more honorable, albeit quicker way." Not saying that the sentencee shouldn't be harsher, just saying that you can't put one person responsible for another person's actions and life choices.

Certainly you can. We do it every time we sentence a dope dealer.

My sentence for dope dealers is to make them eat all the drugs you find them with. If its a small enough amount they might survive.

These people are selling misery, death and addiction. They are supporting terrorists the world over. Yes and the users are doing the same .
