Pretty good and interesting flick, it's definitely worth watching. This movie was partly devoted to racism and was powerful in that light; however, it still did not beat out one of my favorite 'powerful' and coincidentally racist's movies, American History X. This movie also bounces off of another favorite of mine, Magnolia in that in brings in a variety of characters who each are interconnected with each other and learns something at the end of the film. If you take a careful look at each of the characters from beginning to end, each one of them is left scathed. Each one of the characters is scathed but they end up turning around and doing or 'becoming' the opposite of what they were when we first encountered them. I wish I could delve deeper into some scenes and characters but I don't want to spoil it for everyone.

If you want a dramatic movie, this is for you. If you love sociology, this is for you. If you love dissecting individual psychology, this is for you. If you love thinking about 'life', where it leads to, what impact you have on others, what impact others have on you, the famous 'Six Degrees of Separation', and philosophy in general, this movie is for you. If you want to see how miscommunication plays a role in society and conflict, this if for you. If you want to see human stupidity, spirit, love, hate, comedy, and tragedy, this movie is for you. If you want an unexpected, powerful movie with a foundation of a multitude of races, this movie is for you. If you look into the film and try and see the film maker's 'telos' you should extract a ton of knowledge of what people are like, society is like, government is like, politics is like, and POWER and influence are like.

It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In LA, nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

I won't get into any more detail to spoil it for everyone.

If you're into that type of flick, Grand Canyon is GREAT! It's an older movie, but worth looking for.

They really should have touched on the "black on black" racism......but that's a whole movie in itself. :lmao:

Finally got around to watching this last night... Damn...

It was def worth the 2 hours I invested in it. I loved the way the people were connected through the ironies... They were all forced to face their demons at one point or another...

No one else here at my work had seen it....I loved it and so my copy is slowly making its way thru the building....Could not hang with American History X, too violent for me. Crash has certainly been the catalyst for some great conversations here! I agree with MainMan about the black on black.....What do you all think of Crash being shown to ...say, 9th or 10th graders? We have required books, why not film?

Maybe with consent forms. It's an R rating, so no one under 17 is supposed to see it without a parent. It's got some racy scenes in it, and some content might be objectionable to some of our more religious parents. JMO

:yeahthat: But then again, they've shown Schindler's List in high schools, and I think the message in Crash is just as important, as it deals with the way people interact today and how their decisions can ultimately make or break their life.

I still think the way to describe this film is the way my niece described it. She said "this is a film about racism; and by the way, in case you didn't notice, this is a film about RACISM; it's also about racism, but it's really about racism too; did you happen to notice, it's about racism?".

I just felt this none too subtle point was hammered so often, it felt like a movie written by an adolescent, and that most of the acting performances were dreadful.

I thought Crash was quite overrated and didn't at all deserve Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The cast is great, as was the message, but it relied too much on coincidences, in my opinion, and had too many "bait-and-switch" moments for cheap thrills.

Of the films nominated for Best Picture, I thought Brokeback Mountain, Capote, and especially Steven Spielberg's thriller Munich were all far better. I will admit Crash was superior to George Clooney's boring civics lesson of a movie, Good Night, and Good Luck.

Don't watch another film then. Film is based highly on coincidences. You don't actually want to see people live their lives in real time, do you? No, we want fast action cutting most times, we want the story and we want it quick.

In the case of Crash as I have mentioned above, the six degree's of separation comes into play. Now then, if you wanted to dissect every single characters life then be my guest in viewing the hours upon hours of film. However, if you wanted the basic idea of the six degree's of separation and better yet, the meaning of it all then I believe this film is excellent representation.

I s'pose I just thought Crash's director Paul Haggis (who co-wrote the script with Bobby Moresco) relied TOO much on coincidences. I don't mind them being used in films (a film similar to Crash by the name of Magnolia did so brilliantly), but, here, it felt cheap and way too convenient. By the end, I wanted a plot to develop and for the symbolism-overloaded "coincidental meetings" to stop being the driving force. It never was concrete or hard-hitting enough to truly give its' powerful message its' due and just seemed to float from "oh-so clever" coincidence to the next. I don't hate Crash, though, and thought it was compelling when I saw it in theatres, but I just thought the extreme amount of wink-wink-style coincidences bogged it down. Just my opinion, though, and I can DEFINITELY see why Crash is so loved. It does have an extremely good cast and important message.

:yeahthat: I watched it this weekend and it was a powerful and gripping movie. Sometimes you never realize how subtle and insiduous racism is. "You think you know who you are. You have no idea." says it all.
