Oh My God, I drove through the neighborhood...if that is what you want to call it, and I could not believe the trash outside of peoples homes? Cars on bricks...I entered through CRE by way of the road that leads to Drum Point. Are there nicer areas in CRE? Can someone help me with the directions, we only drove about 3 miles and turned around. We now live in Welcome, towards LaPlata, but looking to get into a better school area. There is no way I could leave my home to live in a place where I would have to look at a bunch of crap in peoples yards....please tell me there is a better "area" in CRE?

There are better areas...thats a rather trashy end of the neighborhood...the street I live on is rather nice...no trash in peoples yards, neighbors are basically friendly...only annoyance is the Kfed wanna be who sometimes plays music too loud late at night. But as far as looks go...its pretty nice. This is back towards the airport.

I'm going to be honest here... are you ready?

Most of CRE is a $h!t hole. There are bright spots and areas that are nicer than others, but overall its a $h!t hole.

Sorry to offend anyone that lives there. I've lived there too.

I agree...but not everyone can afford to live anywhere else the way the housing market these days. But this reminds me of an ad I saw. $165,000 for what looks like a shed, there is a tarp on the roof and no driveway, in the ranch club.

Oh totally agreed. In terms of affordability... it's the only game in town.

I don't knock anyone for living there. Like I said, I lived there. I'm just glad I'm not there anymore!

I'm looking to move north, there is a new community going up just south of Chesapeake Beach town area...right across the street from brownies beach (if you know that place) 300 new homes being built.

Do you know how much they are? Is that a nice area? I am not too familiar with Calvert.

it all depends...the houses in the town area are mostly old, and look run down, but north and south (where the new houses are going) is nice. I imagine they are going to be pricey...400k and up because of the close proximity to the bay.

That's nothing. I was trolling the MRIS and the cheapest "house" I could find was a crappy trailer in Hollywood going for $200k

:faint:

Ya'lls housing prices down there are crazy.

I bowl overhand
I looked at aplace in CRE. At the time they wanted 260k for a house with no garage that sat on a potholed nasty one lane dirt road (I think there was asphalt there 20 or 30 years ago) on a lot that looked that it was split. If there was ever an emergency anywhere on this road the emergency equipment would be limited as to getting to the house and nobody else on the road would be able to get to their houses.. I figure the shape of the road, my cars would have been worthless in a matter of a year of two.

I passed.

But you do get water access, a pool, and private airport..

a pool? the airport is nice if you have money to build a hangar and oh buy a plane, and the water access is limited now they they took away the launching ramp, you can put a small john boat in or jet-skis thats about it.

I also live by the airport and most of the homes in my section are well kept.

The prices of houses these days are blowing my mind! I paid about 109,000 for this split level about 10 yrs. ago and now when we refinanced for a shorter mortgage length, this house is worth well over 250,000!! :faint: I just don't understand how these people are paying these outrageous prices for these houses. I realize they are both probably working their butts off to pay for it. And that it is nice to have a beautiful home, but what good is it if your never home to enjoy it? I'm just glad I bought when I did. :howdy:

Cre

The ranch club isn't the nicest place in the County to live, but given it geographical area, it is likely the cheapest.

Before doing any buying in their I suggest doing a lot of checking. Last time I heard anything about CRE, the streets were all private, so that means no county or state maintenance and snow plowing was all private and paid for by CRE.

Water service was also private, but I think was on its way to going public.

When I lived in Calvert Co, CRE was private with security gates at it 2 entrances. I always thought that was the funniest thing.... Who in the world was trying to get in, and what were they going to do once they got it??? The punks and AH's in that area were all living in the ranch club...

We do have public water which is nice, no stupid wells...and our road crews...as far as plowing, i think they do quite a good job...The ranch club is usually rather clear even when route 4 isn't.

About the gates...the ranch club used to be very nice. With the gates and keeping people out. After they took down the gates and allowed section 8 housing inside it all went to ****.

Allow me to clarify a few things here....
The Chesapeake Ranch Club (now known as Chesapeke Ranch Estates) was orginally a destination for vacationers that had second homes by the bay. It was built with seasonal living in mind and had a club house built along with camp grounds and a man made lake for relaxing. It was a private club that was self supporting by dues paid for by its property owners and when the population boom hit it coincided with the selling of the property by its original owners. It was never, ever designed to be a subdivision. Part of the problem is that there are so many lots on the property and with many houses in and around being built in the late 50's to early 60's as vacation homes (I know, the one I own and live in is one of them) property developers came in during the 90's and still today are building spec houses right on top of one another and next to all of the orginal houses and properties. With no planning at all and no guidelines for how houses should look if you drive around (which you saw on your first visit) you will see low income homeowners that have lived here for 20+ years (most of whom bought thier homes for under 70k) with houses right next door to 400K homes. If you look throughout the county there are very few places you can buy a home and have access to a fresh water lake, 2 bayfront beaches, a clubhouse that can be rented by any property owner and close proximity to such a good public school system for the amount of money that can purchase a home here. Am I defending the community in which I live? Absolutely. Is it the best place in the county to live? Hell no. For the money though, it can't be beat. No place is without its compromises. Before you make up your mind, take a look at all the property and homes available on all sides of the community. It is huge (which is really an understatement) and there are good areas to go with the bad. Just be sure to check out the good ones before you decide its all bad. :yay:
oh and ps-the roads are typically in better shape in here than RT4 when it snows.
