Creepy!

My sister emailed me this morning to let me know that she had the police at her house until almost midnight. Apparently her daughter was contacted through the computer game Mine Craft by a boy posing as a suicidal girl who needed to talk to my neice. Unfortunately, my neice gave this person her cell number. He emailed pictures of an arm that was all cut up and said that "she" had done that to herself and wanted to die. My sister found out and called the cops, not knowing if this was a pervert or not.

While the cops were there, the boy skyped my neice and that's how they found out that it was a boy posing as a girl. My sister didn't give me all the details but the police got the boy's phone number (He lives in Canada) and contacted the mom. Mom said that the kid had mental illness problems and was hearing voices. She also found disturbing pictures on his phone and was planning on taking him to the doctors.

Needless to say, my sister had yet another talk with my neice about the dangers of giving personal information to strangers over the Internet. Hopefully, after this experience, she learned her lesson.

Oh good, so Canada has wackos too and it's not just us. :whew:

There was a girl up in Frederick that got hooked up with an internet "boyfriend" who turned out to be an adult man who attacked her after convincing her to stay home "sick" from school so he could come spend the day with her. Larry may remember the details, but you cannot stress enough to your kids that people on the internet are not necessarily who they claim to be.

We had an incident where #2 girl was acting reluctant to go spend the night with a pair of friends that she normally got hysterical when kept apart from. She finally fessed up that the evening's plan was to meet up with some douche one of the girls had been cyber fooling with. Good on her! :yay:

Which is exactly why my kids do not have access to the internet, UNLESS it is in front of me or a family member. My son plays Minecraft every day without internet access.

Wow, that's scary. I'm glad the police were able to contact the mother of the head case because he definitely needs some serious help! And I really hope your neice will be more careful in the future about giving her personal info out to wackos she "meets" online.

See here is the thing. Mom already knows her kid has serious issues and she was "planning to take him to the doctors". I'm pretty sure mom knew all of this before this incident yet her son is sitting at home and has a cellphone and access to the internet all while she "plans to take him to a doctor".

Wake up, America... No amount of legislation is going to protect us from people like this. :boo:

I love my Kwilly because she is a fountain of common sense, and is comfortable calling things what they are.

Exactly! If I knew my son clearly had mental issues like this, I wouldn't be "planning to take him to a doctor" while he was "planning" God knows what. And I'd be damned if he'd be on any computer or have access to a phone without me right there next to him watching his every move. This mother needs help too because she's a crappy parent. You don't "plan" to get your kid help, you get it immediately before he hurts/kills innocent people and/or himself.

:yeahthat: Our computer is password protected so they have to ask me or their Dad for access and then we sit there and watch. My youngest plays Minecraft on his Kindle but it's the pocket edition so no access to strangers.

No matter how much some of us hover over our Kids, they will find a way. Denial is a wonderful thing until reality hits.
