Cross Country Bicycle Tour

Me and a friend are starting a cross country bicycle tour on the 1st of September. We will be getting a ride in a friends boat to Crisfield, from where we will to Wallops Island on the 6th to watch the rocket launch, an properly start our journey at the Atlantic Ocean. If you would like to follow our journey we have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/wanderingamerica, and will be updating with pictures, videos and locations as much as we can. We will be mostly camping out. If you have any questions, ask away! Its both of ours first bicycle tour (long or short). And if you have any cyclist hate, take it elsewhere. Im not here to argue about it, Ill just ignore you and delete it. Positive vibes only please!

That sounds like a good time!! Can't wait to watch your journey.

How have you been training?
How long/far do you think you will be riding each day?
Are you going to use a GPS app that uploads your progress, or shows real time, or even use a "bread crumb trail"?

I have been training, up to a point. I can ride all day with no discomfort and was blessed with pretty strong legs. I ride 10-20 a day and 50-60 on occasion. But even the true tourers will tell you, the only way to truly prepare is to just go. Im still young and in good shape. I dont anticipate any problems with that aspect. I plan on around 70-100 a day (I average 10-12mph fully loaded not really pushing it). Some days the winds will be against us and 30miles will be a feat. Sometimes we may just push all day. I have been looking into the Spot GPS system, just to keep my families mind at ease. Routes are mostly being done with google maps bicycle route option and Adventure Cycling Association paper maps.
