Husband's 50th is the end of a January. Was thinking of taking a cruise to celebrate and there is one out of Baltimore the day before. Has anyone ever cruised in January or February? I know it's cold as crap up here but what about the Caribbean? Hopefully the ships pools are heated...

We cruised at the end of February. Left out of Miami and 14 days later ended up in Barcelona. In between there was the Azores and a few ports in Spain.

The trip was chilly, but it was wonderful. The ship was awesome, but I must admit, because of the chilly temperatures, we didn't spend much time in the pools.

Hope you enjoy your trip. :yay:

Some times it's a great time to cruise and it's warm, sometimes it's a great time to cruise and its cold.

The first couple of days out, it will be chilly. Water in Florida can still be chilly, but the Caribbean will be nice. We have been out in Dec, Jan and Feb and enjoyed the beach days. Looking forward to one in Dec and on in Feb.

It'll be nice in the Caribbean. Bermuda is a short run and you'll be in warm weather soon.

I went out of Baltimore in February last year. I will never do it again. It was cold as hell. We couldn't even use the pool or any outside activities the first 3 days. Once we could get in the pool the water was freezing. Then coming back into Baltimore it was snowing. If you are looking to have a warm tropical time it definitely is not a good choice. If you are looking for a Polar bear plunge than you are good to go.

Bermuda since it is not in the Caribbean isnt warm in the winter months. Nov - March the temp ranges in the low 60's degrees. Which is warmer here but I personally wouldnt travel there in those months. Plus I dont think there is any cruise line that travels there during those months either.

OP
RCL has cruises in Jan & Feb to the Bahamas or The Caribbean from Baltimore. I would think leaving from Baltimore would be so fabulous! So please report back if you do decide to go on one :yay:

I've cruised in January before leaving out of Florida. Warm weather, but cool enough to where I didn't feel the need to get into the ship's pools. Caribbean weather is beautiful, but can be a little chilly in the evenings.

If you want it to be much warmer, fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico and take a southern caribbean cruise out of there; you will then start in a much warmer climate. Cheap cruises that time of year offsetting the little bit extra in airfrace.

Royal has their Serenade of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas out of there. The ports are much better on those routes.

There is also a Celebrity ship and Carnival ship out of San Juan.

Go to Cruise Reviews, Cruise Deals and Cruises - Cruise Critic and check reviews on the ships you are thinking of using. :yay:

Going out of Baltimore here soon. As I understand it, it will be cool until about midway through day 2 or longer (just check Orlando weather since its about the same latitude). However, it is also a longer cruise and can enjoy the ship on those first sea days. Plenty to enjoy onboard. I would think Jan/Feb would be a little worse.

I've cruised out of Baltimore in Jan, I've always gotten lucky. A little chilly but by the afternoon of the next day we were in the pool. Weather is a fickle thing. Cruised out of Balt in Oct and same thing, not bad. Florida was warm but not humid, same with the bahamas. Getting ready to cruise again in Jan 2012.

Instead of a cruise, how about the all included packages to the islands. Either can be a blast, drink tab on the ship can get pricey :buddies:
