CSM CSM’s Benny C. Morgan Concert Series Features an Afternoon with Timothy Hudson on the Trumpet Feb. 15

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) continues its 2019-2020 Benny C. Morgan Concert Series Feb. 15 at its Leonardtown Campus with a free 3 p.m. performance by Trumpeter Timothy Hudson. He will be accompanied by CSM’s Arts, Humanities, Social Science, and Education Division Chair and Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music, Theater, and Dance Dr. Stephen Johnson on the piano.

Trumpeter Timothy Hudson will perform at the upcoming Benny C. Morgan Concert Series.

Hudson has performed throughout the U.S., Mexico, England, New Zealand, the Far East and Israel, performing with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Yoel Levi, Mariss Jansons, Leonard Slatkin and Enrique Batiz. As a studio musician, Hudson has recorded for Summit Records, Academy Sound and Vision, Ltd., OSEM, Mode Records, Mark Records, Mellencamp and Associates Group of the Navarre Corp. and IBA labels.

He has held the Principal Trumpet position with the Knoxville Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York, New England Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico and the NC Opera. He is also a former member of the Charlotte Symphony, International Orchestra (Israel), New England Chamber Orchestra, and the Camerata Chamber Orchestra in Indiana, and has played with the Oslo Philharmonic (Norway), Mid-Atlantic Chamber Orchestra (Washington, D.C.), Boston Philharmonic, Greensboro Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the North Carolina Symphony.

Hudson is the founding member and director of the Carolina Brass. Under his direction, Carolina Brass has become a national touring ensemble and a Summit Recording Artist with international distribution. In addition, he plays an average of 250 engagements each year including performances with Carolina Brass, the North Carolina Symphony and the Opera Company of North Carolina. For the past 20 years, he has performed with pop and jazz artists such as Ray Charles, the Temptations, Tony Bennett, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Rogers, Bobby Vinton, the Moody Blues, Chuck Mangione and Dizzy Gillespie.

Benny C. Morgan was a beloved music educator in St. Mary’s County schools for 30 years and served as organist and choir director in several area churches. In January 2016, Morgan donated his prized Steinway grand piano to the CSM’s Leonardtown Campus. Sadly, Morgan passed away several weeks later, however, with the knowledge that his generosity will add to the musical culture of CSM’s students as well as the Southern Maryland community for years to come. The Benny C. Morgan Recital Series was instituted in 2016 in his memory.

The Benny C. Morgan Series is presented by sponsors Johnny Alvey and the CSM Foundation. The series is also supported by the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

The series takes place in Building A, Room 206, at the Leonardtown Campus, 22950 Hollywood Road in Leonardtown. All performances begin at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. No tickets or reservations are needed. Concerts are free. For information on the Benny C.
