Cunard cruise line

Has anyone here taken a cruise on 1 of the Cunard ships? My understanding is that they are more of an ocean liner than a cruise ship. I've been on Carnival & Norwegian ships before. Are they much different? Are they really much classier?

But what is it that sets them apart?
The only time I'd sail Cunard is if I was 60 plus. They are a more refined line and I don't want that in a vacation.

If you are truly looking for "The Plaza" hotel experience, Cunard can bring you those luxurious amenities. If you want fun and exciting nightlife, Royal Caribbean is the way to go!

As I understand it, it's like the rest; you're stuck on a giant floating hotel/casino/mall/restaurant/pool thingy that takes a really long time to get you to a beach.

I don't get the appeal of those floating high rise ships. If I go on a cruise, I want it to be smallish - like the Love Boat. :D

I think our best cruise was on Royal Caribbean, Oasis of the Seas. That was a really large ship, but service and all was the best we ever experienced.

I don't understand cruises period. Monello is taking his Mom (awwwww!) so Cunard sounds right for them but I only really enjoyed my land destinations, not the actual cruising. I mean, it was fun because I was hammered most of the time and with my friends, but I had no interest in the shows and casino. The pool area was filled with screaming kids, so that wasn't fun either. The food was unremarkable but made for good alcohol absorption. Our ports were fun but it was annoying to have a time limit to enjoy them. I did enjoy having the steward bring us coffee to enjoy on the balcony in the morning.

Not sorry I went but not in a huge hurry to do another one.

I view a cruise as your hotel room, your transportation, your restaurants, your entertainment and casino all rolled into 1. You unpack once. Get a chance to visit a few different ports. Lots of food choices even for picky eaters. There are lots of reasonably priced cruises if you take the time to look and also if you are flexible and can go last minute when they offer bargain pricing.

You are a better man than I and that you're taking your mom is probably gonna earn you some sort of upgrade in heaven. :buddies:

Again, I've never been and EVERYONE whose has been on one tells me it's the greatest thing in the world, ever. Vrai even says she liked it. So, this is just one of those things I am irrational about but, the idea of being stuck on a boat, expected to wander about and graze and stay plowed, mingle with people who like cruises, then have to get off the boat at given times, get back on the boat, total affront to my control issues. I'd get off, find a local dump to fall in love with and wave 'bye, bye!' as the appointed 'back on the boat' hour came and went.

But, again, I hear they are great...

Oasis of the Seas was awesome. Freedom of the Seas also.

Me and a few buddies have been planning to salvage this baby...stand by..once we've got 'er cleaned up a bit, we'll be offering some killer deals on cruises.

I'm halfway through the script. Now, we just need a hit, unknown starlet that looks good holding a SAW and someone to play the inevitable Super Rat. Maybe Gene Simmons will do it if we let him have the rights to sell KISS Rats?

The cruise was very enjoyable. Cunard really knows how to spoil their passengers. 6 great ports in 12 days. The food was excellent and quite varied. They give tours of the kitchen. The galley was immaculate. The High Tea is served each day at 3:30pm. Very British from what I understand. They have a planetarium onboard. The average age of the clientele isn't what you find on other ships. The casino isn't very utilized but the restaurants sure are. Meals are an event. We closed the restaurant most nights. Great dining companions.
