"WASHINGTON -- There's a new motorcade in town, but it's not for the president.

The next time you see a big black SUV speeding along D.C. streets with lights flashing and sirens blaring, it may be the city's new mayor.

Mayor Adrian Fenty said he has been using lights and sirens to get across town for community meetings and other routine events. Fenty said he doesn't want to let traffic get in the way of staying on schedule.

The mayor said he uses the lights and sirens on a case-by-case basis.

Police officers drive the mayor and sometimes run red lights or make illegal turns to reach his destinations.

Other big city mayors said they try to avoid such practices, except in emergencies. A spokesman for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said they don't want to make traffic problems any worse.

Former D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams didn't allow the use of lights and sirens. He liked to read or make calls in the car. "

Watch out DC drivers...here come's the Mayor..you can be late towork due to traffic..but you have to risk being late to make way for his red lights and sirens....
Do you think this is fair?
