Thanks for posting this. It was truly an incredible effort. My father landed on the beaches. I wish he was still here so I could talk to him more about it.
I worked in an automotive machine and parts shop back in early 80s and our delivery driver was an old guy, way past retirement age. After I got to know him, I learned from the shop owner that he'd landed in the first wave at Normandy and fought all the way from there to Germany and the German surrender. He never talked about it though..not even a little.

The memories were probably pretty bad and he knew most people wouldn't get it anyway. God Bless him. First wave....wow
