Their ONLY GRIPE is to possibly turn away terrorists and criminals. Otherwise, let them all in and they need more people - to process them. They need more resources - to speed the process. They don't need more Border Patrol - because what the hell for?

But they just don't get the way this works - when you ANNOUNCE when you're going to pull from Afghanistan, or ANNOUNCE when you will change a policy - people will ADJUST their plans and behavior. For example, if you WILLINGLY turn yourself in and go back across the border - you're not restricted by the five year requirement. So what do people do? Go back - and come right back again.

They are NOT adopting a position of keeping them out.

We HAVE LEGAL immigration, and last I heard, Trump allowed more of it than any previous President. But we also need people who can take care of themselves, people with education and means and skills to thrive here. What we DON'T need are more dependents. More people for the government to keep taking care of.

AND - it's because they firmly believe that all of them SHOULD be allowed to enter. That all this paperwork nonsense is just a bunch of legal nuisances. It's why they say "undocumented" and "a person can't be illegal".
