This is pretty wierd. I grew up in Duluth's sister city, Superior Wisconsin. It's right across the tip of the lake.
Maybe the cold weather up there breeds hardy cats. Dutchess, the cat that I had as a kid lived to be a couple of months shy of 20 years old. Aside from being blind she was still going strong then too, but she snuck out and got hit by a car. She was a cool cat. She used to growl at my parents when they came in to wake me up in the morning. Nothing like being an eight year old girl with a demon familiar cat.
