Just a couple weeks ago, I was reading about how the earth's core had stopped spinning, but was starting to pick up speed again in the reverse direction. The article said this normal spinning one way, stopping, then resuming the other direction has a direct effect on continental drift, the ocean flows, tides, etc. etc. etc.
