Dandruff?

I am pretty sure my 8 year old daughter has dandruff. This would be the first time. I looked at her head this morning and noticed white flakes in her hair. So I put it in a pony tail to keep the visibility to a minimum today and after we got home, I put her in the bath for a deep cleaning hair wash. We let her hair dry and I go through it again. There are still flakes found only in the center area of the scalp. No where else. I have looked for ring worm, lice, and anything else that may be out of the ordinary. She said her head doesn't itch at all. We have not had to deal with dandruff before, so should I take her to the doctor to verify my diagnosis or buy a kid friendly medicated shampoo? TIA

Has your daughter been washing her own hair up until tonight?

:yeahthat:

maybe she is not getting all the shampoo out and it is drying up and flaking

Exactly what I was thinking. My daughter never gets her hair rinsed good enough. She is 11 and there is no way she is going to let ME wash her hair now! I got her some dandruff shampoo and I never see it anymore.

She has been washing her hair on her own for about 2 months now. Her new claim to her independency. I started by doublechecking her hair in the beginning but then I got kicked out of the bathroom. So she can have this one section on her scalp of flakes and it's probably dried up shampoo? Should the medicated shampoo help this or lots hair washes closely monitored?

Sorry for the questions, but my mom left for Germany and I don't have a way to get in contact with her till she gets settled there. So I am cut off from the mommy advice at the moment.

It takes care of the dried up shampoo and does not allow it to become flakes. I have seen a vast improvement in my daughters hair. I just get the Equate brand of Head and Shoulders. Works like a charm.

Some more advise, make sure you don't over cleanse because if you strip the hair of natural oils, it will cause a problem as well. I know that we all like to wash hair daily but it is better to do it every other day so the oil glands don't start to overproduce due to daily deep cleansing,, JMO and 12 years in the hair bizz in the past.
