Daniel 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war.[a] The understanding of the message came to him in a vision.
2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, 5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.
7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. 8 So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. 9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.
10 A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.
12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. 16 Then one who looked like a man[b] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. 17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.”
18 Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. 19 “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.”
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”
20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.

a. Daniel 10:1 Or true and burdensome
b. Daniel 10:16 Most manuscripts of the Masoretic Text; one manuscript of the Masoretic Text, Dead Sea Scrolls and Septuagint Then something that looked like a human hand

Now consider this.... I think this is Gabriel again.... but it doesn't say it's Gabriel.... I know Michael is an angel.... and apparently Michael was in favor of Daniel knowing the plan.... what ever it is..... Is this guy Gabriel, or Jesus, or.... [nah... it couldn't be God.... no one can look directly at God]....

The messenger, whom Daniel sees in a vision, was distinct from the angel Michael, from whom he needed assistance. The description of such glory has led some to see him as Christ in a pre-incarnate appearance (such as Joshua 5:13; 6:2 and Judges 6:11-23). He is described almost identically to Christ (in Rev. 1:13-16).
Revelation 1:13-16 "And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle." "His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire;" “And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.” “And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.”
Most likely this was Gabriel who touched him who had interpreted other revelations to Daniel (8:16), and spoke similarly of Daniel’s being beloved. Gabriel is only mentioned by name 4 times in the entire bible, twice here in Daniel and twice in the book of Luke (verses 1:19 and 26).
Whoever this is representing God to Daniel, was not powerful enough to break through the Satanic forces to Daniel. There is a great spiritual warfare going on. The forces of God are fighting against the forces of the devil constantly.
The 3 week delay was due to an evil angel opposing Gabriel in heavenly warfare. This angel was specially anointed with Persian power in an effort to thwart the work of God. This tells us that Satan engages in heavenly warfare to influence generations and nations against God and His people.
Angels are ministering spirits to help the saints. Perhaps, Michael (an archangel), had more authority and broke through for him. Today the authority to fight these evil forces lies in the name of Jesus.
Michael is a chief angel of heaven (Jude 9, Rev. 12:7). Michael remained to assure that the Jews would be free to return to their land.
Whoever this appearance is of, Daniel associates him with the Lord. He truly is representing the Lord to Daniel. Daniel's strength and breath have left him, because of the nearness of this presence.
It is God who fights the battles for all of His children. The Persians were in control, when Daniel had this vision.
“The prince of Persia” is an evil angel contesting for the kingdom of Greece and soon after the Grecians had control.
The prince of Persia and the prince of Grecia were speaking of warfare with Satan's army.
Michael is the Archangel associated with the one we call Jesus. The one speaking here to Daniel is Gabriel. The visions (of the 11th and 12th chapters), are revealed to the mind and spirit of Daniel.
“Scripture of truth”: God’s plan of certain and true designs for men and nations, which He can reveal according to His discretion. The angel with Michael intended to handle the demons of Persia and Greece. This actually forms the heavenly basis for the earthly unfolding of history.

So that commentary thinks it is Gabriel and Micheal knows Gabriel is talking to Daniel. It seems to me..... Gabriel was trying to get to Daniel for those very three weeks that Daniel had been fasting and praying.... but Gabriel seems to have been tied up with Angelic warfare stuff. This book is amazing.... can you imagine an Angelic war going on and Michael tells Gabriel to leave and go handle Daniel.... "enough already.... we know you are praying for peace and for God to let you go back home.... but cool it... there's a lot more angelic warfare that has to play out first.... Greece still has to defeat Persia.... Here... let me explain it to you".......

Now... verses 7 and 8 seem a little fuzzy.... his friends didn't see anything but they were afraid? The rest of the story is so clear [well except for who is actually talking to Daniel... but that aside.... ).... this is from the easy English site.

There were people with Daniel. They did not see the man, but they were afraid. Perhaps they could hear his strange voice. The other people ran away. Daniel was very afraid too, but he did not run away. He was so afraid that he fell down. Then he started to sleep.
If they heard a loud noise.... that would make them run. that makes sense.

Finally.... this is from bibletrack.org.

This chapter sets us up for chapter 11. We are told in verse 1 that this vision comes to Daniel in "the third year of Cyrus king of Persia." Cyrus actually inherited the Persian throne in 559 B.C., but that event meant nothing to Daniel, since Daniel and his Jewish brethren were subjects of Babylon at that point in time. In 539 B.C. Persia overcame Babylon, and Daniel had a new boss. That is certainly the date from which Daniel is counting the reign of Cyrus in verse 1. That places this vision in 536 or 535 B.C. If Daniel was somewhere between 10 and 20 years old when he was taken from Jerusalem in 605 B.C., that would make Daniel 80 to 90 years old at this point in time. The exiles from Judah/Jerusalem began returning to their homeland in 535 B.C. Daniel sees a vision of continued conflict for God's people after the return of the exiles to Jerusalem. It so overwhelms him that he mourns for three weeks. In this chapter we see the working of demonic beings being referenced. In fact, we see in Ezra 4 that the temple-rebuilding project back in Jerusalem was delayed by 20 years or so because of the opposition from the pagan folks there.
These supernatural beings mentioned here causing the interference must have been those that empowered those evil nations. Those nations will be the subject of chapter 11.
We actually see some detail regarding angels (good and bad) in this chapter that cannot be found elsewhere when Daniel sees a clear manifestation of an angel and describes his appearance to us. We also learn from this passage the struggle that likely still takes place between good and fallen angels. It is obvious from this passage that angels are not omnipresent or omnipotent. Michael was delayed in coming to Daniel because of his struggles with another angel. Therefore, from this passage it appears that fallen angels assist in guiding the affairs of nations that are enemies of God and God's people . Michael, the archangel, is also mentioned in Jude 9 and Revelation 12:7.
So.... Michael and Gabriel are angels.... and God allowed them to talk to Daniel.... and now they are going to give him the lowdown.......

I just looked.... I thought Daniel was a much longer book.... it seemed to take forever to get through it in Bible Study.
