Daniel 10:10 A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”

Setting the scene.... who's there...

Daniel is really shook up. He's pulled to his feet but he's still trembling. That says a lot because let's face it, in Daniel's life, he's been captured, castrated, threatened, had horrible visions, and even thrown into a den of lions.... and now he's trembling. So now he's standing, trembling.

The commentaries don't say who touched Daniel and stood him up. Some say it's still the unnamed angel and others go with it being Jesus. It makes sense that Jesus is involved in the daily struggles, warfare if you will, over the fate of Israel. It also makes sense that if Jesus had to leave a battle, He would leave His second in command. If Michael is the speaker's chief prince, then the speaker is higher still in the hierarchy, meaning it must be Jesus.

Most agree that the prince of the Persian kingdom is Satan. At the very least the prince of the Persian kingdom is one of Satan's demons. One thing for certain.... whoever this prince of Persia is, it's at least a demon up there in the hierarchy of Satan's army, if not Satan himself.

One thing for certain.... the verse "I have come in response" refers to Daniel's prayers.

Daniel has been praying about the people of Israel. Daniel has been praying that the Israelites would return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. Daniel has been praying that the people of Israel would return to their faith in God. I don't think Daniel is praying for a sign or praying for himself at all. It's always been about the people returning to God. He's been upset with the people for being so complacent returning to Jerusalem. In the verses that proceeded this, we see him so distressed that so few went back.

We also know.... there is something big going on.

The one that touched Daniel and stood him up, left the chief prince in control before leaving. Something was going on because the one that touched Daniel and stood him up, was involved in something that detained him until reinforcements could arrive. It's some kind of warfare. That makes sense right?

So Daniel is about to get a look at the Battle Plan. Or that's how I see it...
