I am attempting to complete a commentary on the book of Daniel - completely new interpretations from anything that is "out there". I have completed chapters 1 -10 but I am having significant difficulty with chapter 11. Most scholars, commentaries, etc., begin after verse 4 (Alexander) with one of the rulers of the four territories split from Alexander's Empire. My initial thought is that God is done with them. I believe the verses 5 to 21 at least should consider the Pagan / Papal period and the coming Messiah and the Jewish people (Daniel's people)........ not some relatively insignificant individual as an Antiochus or the transitional kingdoms (post Alexander) - they really do not have much important to God's Plan of Salvation and I do not believe He would spent that much prophetic capital on such..... But I need some serious thinking partners with this... Hope there is some interest in challenging the long and maybe stale interpretations...... My initial plan is to try and identify some verses within 11 that unequivocally point to a specific or definite time or individual and then try to fill in the in-between activity / verses. I will say that unless we can correctly identify the identities in verses 5 and 6, we will not unlock the message of Daniel 11 ....... So, if you would like to brainstorm on these two verses initially..... great!!!!!!
Hope this makes sense and I look forward to your assistance and abilities. Best wishes always, Charlie

I just finished Daniel so it's still fresh..... here's a couple of outtakes on verses 5&6..... maybe this will help... I got it from Bible-studys.org.

King of the South represents the Ptolemies, the leaders of Egypt, contrasted often (in verse 5), with the king of the North, the Seleucids leaders of Syria (verse 6). South and North are in relation to Palestine, for which the angel Gabriel, speaking in the passage, is so concerned. (Verses 5 – 20), cover almost 200 years of wars between these bordering powers.
The king of Egypt shall enter into the kingdom of the north to make an agreement. It appears, a daughter tries to marry, to help the agreement to be signed. She is not accepted, and neither is the agreement signed. The expedition is a failure.
Berenice, daughter of Egypt’s Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285-246 B.C.), married Syria’s King Antiochus II Theos (261-246 B.C.). The latter part of the verse refers to the political advantage they hoped the alliance would produce. Antiochus divorced his wife to marry Berenice. Later that divorced wife murdered Berenice, her baby son, and even Antiochus by poisoning him. Thus she brought her own son, Seleucus II Callinicus, to the throne.

This is form the easy English site.

The man told Daniel about the kings of two of the *kingdoms. The king in the south was the king of Egypt. His name was Ptolemy and he was powerful. Another army officer became the king in the north. He was the king of Syria and his name was Seleucus. He was even more powerful.
Then the man told Daniel about the wars between these *kingdoms. The kings of Egypt used the name Ptolemy. Some of the kings of Syria used the name Seleucus. Some used the name Antiochus, because Antioch was their capital city.
Antiochus II Theos, the king of Syria, divorced his wife Laodicea. Then he married Bernice who was the daughter of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, the king of Egypt. But somebody murdered them. It may have been Antiochus’s previous wife or her son.

I hope that helped.... this part of the prophecy has already happened..... IMHO.... I'm waiting to see a peace agreement that Israel will enter into.... and dreading an earthquake that will make rocks cry......
