Daniel 8:13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled—the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the sanctuary and the trampling underfoot of the Lord’s people?”
14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”

When I open up my browser in the morning I google the chapter of the Bible I'm going to read, then I google the commentary on that chapter, then I open up Southern Maryland Online and go to the Religion forums. I've been reading nine commentaries for my study of Daniel. Sometimes they are all in agreement on theme, pretty much. Sometimes they are all over the place.
This is one of those days when some are way over on one side and a few are on another theme all together. They pretty much agree that the two "holy one"'s are angels. The commentaries say that Daniel overhears these two talking among themselves in verse 13 but when you get to verse 14, the angel talks directly to Daniel. So since the angel turned to Daniel to say 2300 evenings and mornings, I would take it as something important.
This is when the commentaries go askew. So rather than do a bunch of copy and paste entries, I've given you the link to the nine commentaries that google comes up with for Daniel 8. These are the commentaries I'm using to sort of make sense out of these two verses. I'm just going to give you what I think.... remember... Please.... I'm not a preacher... I'm only a reader posting daily scriptures in order to keep myself in the Word. So take what I'm giving you in that context, Please....
In the verses that come before 13 & 14 we see that Alexander the Great conquered the whole area and died at a very young age. Four kings took over and Antiochus IV Epiphanes took over the area around Jerusalem. He was particularly dangerous. We also see that he made deals with the high priest at the temple.... his idol was standing in the Temple.... and he was in control. Actually, since the Jewish people allowed him to bring his idol into the Temple and plop it there for all to worship, and the Jews allowed him to do so.... God allowed the Jews to get what they wanted.... We see that historically Antiochus IV Epiphanes is responsible for murdering 100,000 Jews..... and God allowed it to happen
Here's where the 2300 comes in. The Jewish tradition called for two sacrifices to be done by the high priest every day. One in the morning and one in the evening. IMHO...The two angels were talking about how horrible it was that the sacrifices stopped. One says to the other.... "How long is this going to go on?" The other looks at Daniel, so that Daniel cannot mistake the answer, and says "2300 evenings and mornings".
IMHO.... 2300 evenings and mornings means 2300 missed sacrificial ceremonies.
I don't believe it means 2300 days [on top of which might mean 2300 years because to God a day is like a year our time]. I believe it means they missed 2300 sacrificial ceremonies. That's a 1150 days or a little over 3 years. It has nothing to do with end time.... it's prophetic in that when this Antiochus IV Epiphanes takes over the Temple.... God will allow him to ruin the lives of the Jews. The reason God allowed this to happen.... the Jews welcomed this dangerous person into their Temple... if they had asked God to help them... they could have kept Antiochus IV Epiphanes from bringing in his idol and all this would have been avoided.
That's how I interpret these verses anyway....
